Dave wrote to me in the Shield: "You worry the hell out of me. You are the only girl in school who can embarrass me. You are a pest. You try my patience. No wonder we are such good friends."
I loved this "gentle giant "--this "fat bum" as I called him because of a skit we did one time.
He visited me once at Baylor(caused quiet a stir) and I spent the week-end with his Aunt and Uncle (Coach's brother) in a little town near Waco, Texas. They treated me like royalty!! Tyree was a special name in those parts.
I remember how he towered over his good buddies Weasel and Couch, how we had to stop the basketball game to look for his contacts and how terrified I was the morning he put me on top of the lockers right before the bell rang!
I know he left a wife and son behind but am sad to say that I don't know what happened to them. Maybe some of you Southwestern grads know.
It's hard to believe that "Baby Huey" is gone. Big Dave was a fun guy and a great practical joker. I sure enjoyed our card games, water balloons, fishing trips, looking for his contact lenses on the football field or basketball court, having dinner with Dave, Coach Tyree and Ms. Tyree. Any time one spent with Dave was enjoyable and often memorable. I think it safe to say, Dave enjoyed life and enjoyed the many people who were part of his life. He was always a class act and will be greatly missed. Let's hear it for "sugar bear."

Dave was a dear close friend, I think of him often. What a loss.

And I am glad he put Carol West on top of the locker. I am sure she deserved it!
