I had known Robin since grade school. I aways thought she was one of the sweetest, most compassionate people I have ever known. It broke my heart when she died of breast cancer. Years later, I ended up with breast cancer myself. One year, I was walking in The Race For The cure and I was wearing a sign that said I was walking for "My friend Robin". If you have ever done the race, you know that there are thousnds ands thousands of walkers. The likelihood of running into someone you know is very slim. Lo and behold, I ran into Robin's Mother and her two daughters! I was able to show them that I was walking for Robin. It meant a lot to all of us. I have always considered Robin to be the very special "Angel on my shoulder". I miss her and feel so sorry that her children did not get to have their wonderful Mother with them for a longer time. Robin and I rode the bus together every day to school. I respected Robin so very much. She was kind, dedicated to her family, as well as her life at school. She knew my faith was importatnt to me, as i knew hers was to her. We respected each other - one being of the Jewish faith and one being Christian. As I was preparing for my confirmation ceremony in the Lutheran church, I would take my my study guide with me on the bus to study for my upcoming exam. Robin noticed one day that i was diligently studying for my upcoming test. She offered to study with me. I was so thankful for her help.
That Christmas she brought a gift to me. It was a small nativity that she purchased for me. To this day, that is one of the most precious gifts I have ever received. Each Christmas I display it with joy and a sweet memory of the friendship we shared as girls riding the bus to Sibley High School each day.
I've had my home shown for Holiday Open Houses and I've had the priviledge of sharing that story with those who have come on the tours. Robin is missed.
