Carol Hohenstein

 

Born November 26, 1955, Carol Ann Hohenstein departed this life on February 8, 2026. Carol was predeceased by her wife, Laurie Rose Simon; and by her parents, Karl Hohenstein, Elizabeth Hohenstein, and Lorraine Hohenstein. Carol is survived by her siblings, Mary (Alex) Brown, Susan (John) Connaker, Robert (Ann) Hohenstein, Karl (Cheryl) Hohenstein, Sarah (David) Burk, and William (Julie) Hohenstein; precious nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; special cousins, Karen (Steve Nusbaum) Engelbretson, Bernie (Raul Arauz) Buelow, Amy (Mikki Van Emmerik) Winkel, and numerous Hohenstein and Husnik cousins; as well as her very dear friends. Carol enjoyed engaging with people from all walks of life, learning and remembering their names. She loved nature, especially bald eagles and the beauty of Crane Lake. As a graduate of Mankato State University with a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation, she positively impacted many people through her lifelong work in social services. Carol had a deep Christian faith. She loved God and treasured her family and friends. She especially cherished time spent with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She told her caregivers, “I take being an auntie very seriously.” Carol Annie will be fondly remembered for her spirit of independence and lively sense of humor. She is deeply missed. Burial and Celebration of Life will be held April 26th, with details to follow at a later date.

Carol was such a breath of fresh air. Always trying to lighten and brighten the room. Loved band with you in it Carol. I will miss you so much and the fact that I missed saying goodbye, but I know will see you again some day. Love you my friend

So sorry to hear the news.  As a trumpet player she was an honored member of the brass clan.  

Then again, I always found it fascinating that the family business was distributing beer.  And even distributed Hauenstein beer.  We quickly learned how to pronounce the two names properly.  Ha!

It was nice that we did not totally lose contact with each other after graduation, but I regret not keeping closer ties.  Thank you so much for your friendship and life well spent.

Sad news indeed. I've been trying to think of what to say and it's been difficult. Carol was one of the first friends I made way back in 3rd grade at Garlough when I started there. We made some wonderful memories over the years even though we didn't see much of each other after high school. You always made me laugh and we shared some good memories and shennanigans. Until we meet again.....
