In May 1975, just prior to his graduation from St. Thomas College, Doug was killed in a MVA driving to his South Minneapolis  home from the Metropolitan Sports Center, exiiting from northbound I-35W driving westbound on Diamond Lake Road when struck by a southbound vehicle off the I-35W frontage road.  When the accident occurred Doug had been accepted to Johns Hopkins Medical School beginning in the fall of 1975.
