I didn't know Artie very well in high school. I thought he was vulgar, which he would have made him laugh. I met him again when we were in our twenties, hanging around in the same bar in Manchester. We got to be very good friends. When he and Danny Rogers moved to Newberryport MA, I'd go spend weekends. Then I got sober and I couldn't hang around in bars anymore. I always hoped Artie would get sober too, because I could tell drinking was a real problem for him too. He did get sober and married a great woman. He had conquered his demons, he had made a great life for himself and then he died in a motorcycle accident before he knew his wife was pregnant with their first child. He was well loved and he is missed.
