Happy Birthday, Bob.
Hit 'em long and dtraigjt!
Hard to make a 4th trip from Colorado Springs to the East Coast this year, especially just for a short reunion lunch. If you all decided to do another activity or two, like Karen Vowles cited Maloney as doing, or even combining with them for a joint activity or two, I might change my mind.
Thanks for posting this, Al. Though I only ran track Soph year, I remember Coach Roy Gooding very fondly. Whenever friends talk about their track careers I tell them about a particular voluntary Saturday track practice Roy held for runners. We were shocked when he told us the workout was simple: Run 6 miles (24 laps), and sprint a different 100-yard section each lap. We all did it - in those days you did what the coach said without question or quitting. (I went out for the mile, and he suggested I was better-suited for the two-mile. ‘wasn’t good in either; was third behind New England champion, the great Bob Tencza.
‘so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing! He was one if ‘the good guys!’
Al, you’re not alone. The slow death of newspapers continues throughout the Country, if not the world.
In the Colorado Springs area, for example, a 60-year old local county newspaper that served mostly the small town of Fountain, CO, and was the publisher of record for items required by law to be made public, published its LAST issue.
The much-larger Colorado Springs Gazette instead of cutting back on days to publish, or going to a smaller format, just sent us subscribers a love letter last month raising the price by 24.5 %.
In 1990-91, I worked for a local smooth jazz radio station. In training I learned that only about 40% of people read a newspaper. Imagine how low that number is now!
I received this shocking notice on Classmates.com. In case the group hasn’t heard, I pass it on:
Janet E. Greenberg, Class of 1965 Orville H. Platt High School, passed away of July 25, 2022 in Paris, France, where she lived since 1972. I am her brother Bob and wanted to notify her high school classmates of her passing.
‘hope you’re having a nice birthday celebration, Paul! ??
Have a Happy, healthy Birthda cm y, John!
‘hope you had a great, healthy birthday, old push-up buddy!
Come out to visit in Colorado Springs and we’ll take you to the Olympic Training Center and the new, beautiful Olympic and Paralympic Museum and Hall of Fame!

I share everyone’s shock and disbelief over Don’s passing! His quiet, effective leadership in stepping forward to put our great 50th Reunion together will never be forgotten. We should honor him by dedicating our 60th to him. You are loved and missed, my friend! May you already be admitted to the Kingdom of God!
Heartfelt condolences to Phoebe and the family!
Happy birthday to all of this week’s honorees.
