In the midst of getting music performance degrees from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and USC, I met and married Michael, who is a cellist, but amazingly was the auto shop kid in his high school. I travelled around a bit and was able to work with many great musicians.
We escaped the smog of LA to the California foothills, where we helped with Michael's mom's art gallery and got things going musically, teaching and doing music work in Sacramento.
In 2001 we bought property and began building our straw bale house! It is perpetually nearly finished as we keep adding projects. It is a passive solar house with earthen plaster and adobe floors, and this year we hope to start using wind power.
I enjoy teaching about 25 private violin and viola students, playing for Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera Orchestra, and leading our own group, Sacramento Baroque Soloists, founded in 2001. I've done quite a bit of jazz and especially enjoy playing Celtic music.
I've been dealing with a pinched nerve problem since I was in a car accident in 2001, which affects my left hand. It has been a struggle to work through this but I'm learning a lot about my body's alignment and it seems to be getting better, especially now I'm doing Rolfing.
One of my joys now is studying voice, a longtime love which I am finally pursuing. We have a 26-ft sailboat which we can trailer to the bay, last summer sailed to Catalina Island. I also enjoy gardening when I have the time.
My two boys keep me abundantly busy. I can't remember the last time I was bored. I'm homeschooling Cameron, who's seven, and Liam is 2.
My sister, Kristen, is working as a human resources manager for Cisco, in SF Bay area. Nancy is a CPA working with my dad in Portland.
