Daniel Barry

Up dated with information supplied by Dan's wife Diane.  03/26/2017 MJH

Dan died on March 13, 2017, after living with cancer for approximately 2 years. After graduation from Roosevelt High School, Dan inlisted in the Navy, obtained a two-year Associate of Arts degree in general courses then wanting to attend flight school.  Dan served on board the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain.  While on duty in May of 1961, that aircraft carrier picked up the capsule for the first American to fly into space, Alan B. Shepard Jr.  Following his service in the Navy, Dan attended the University of MN  for two years , math major,  (no degree). His desire was to be in law enforcement and with continued studies in law enforcement, he became a police officer with the Zimmerman Police Department from 1978 to 1981.  Dan then was hired by the Crystal Police Department in 1981 and as a patrol officer until 1992.  In October of 1992, Dan was injured on duty and suffered a serious back injury that ultimately ended his career as a police officer 1995.  After more schooling and additional training in the computer technical field, he was employed for about five years with DataSource.   As time went on a civilian position opened up back with the Crystal Police Department a job which Dan had done during his light-duty status as a sworn officer until that job was eliminated by the City of Crystal.  He  applied for that job and was again hired back by the City of Crystal in June 2000.   While working as a police officer,  Dan met his future wife, Diane (a police and fire dispatcher).   After also working with the Crystal Police Department since 1981 where she first met Dan, Diane also lost her job in 1993 when dispatch services were taken over by Hennepin Co.  She was later also hired back by the Crystal Police Department as the office/records manager in January 2001.  Again, they worked together until they both retired in 2012.  Dan and Diane have a blended family of four daughters and 6 grandchildren. Dan loved to tell stories of his adventures in life to his family and friends. He was a true friend to many.  Dan is and will always be dearly missed by his loving wife and cherished family.

Didn't know you were gone.  Nobody told me.  Having said that, Rest in Peace, my good friend.

For those who didn't know, Dan was amember of the swim team, as was I.  For some reason, he did not swin

in his senior year, which is the only season I did.

Dan went on after Roosevelt and served in the US Navy, USS Lake Champaign and I went the other way

to the pacific, USS Coral Sea.  Both Aircraft Carriers.

Years later, Dan became a member of the Crystal Police Dept and I was with the Hopkins Police Dept.

We met again at Police Funtiions and spent several years bowling on the same teams.

I shall miss Dan,  He is, was a great peson and friend.
