Kathryn (Kay) Carlson Kupka

I remember how much fun we had when we were excused from classes (as kids in orchestra) to go
see the symphony perform at the U of M. We would take the bus right past the U. and go on downtown and see a movie instead! Bridgeman's was always
another stop before we would head on home. It was great fun and the music was always wonderful!! (so
we said!)

After graduation, I attended the University of Minnesota for two years. In 1962, Dave Kupka (’58) and I were married following his graduation from Concordia College, Moorhead MN. After completing his theological training in 1966, we began an adventure that took us to various parishes in Canada, Minnesota, Arizona and California. We retired in north San Diego County, in Oceanside. We have three children and three grandsons. All of our family live in California which is a real gift! We love this beach community.

When our youngest started school, I returned to college, finished my BA and continued on to earn a masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University. I began a private practice and also taught at a community college until retirement. While teaching, I wrote some curriculum materials.

We love having our kids close and we enjoy sharing time with our grandsons. Watercolor painting is a passion for me. I very much enjoy leading a book discussion group that has been part of my routine for over ten years. Retirement for us has been an easy adjustment -- life is good!
