Obituary

Sharon Peterson

1942–2019

Owatonna—Sharon Rose Peterson, 77, formerly of Owatonna, died Sunday Oct. 20, 2019 at Sheridan of Creve Couer, MO.

Sharon (Kalscheuer) Peterson was born September 8, 1942 in St. Cloud to Leo and Myrtle Kalscheuer. Sharon graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota. She leveraged her degree in psychology first as a stay-at-home mother and later leading a recreational program for developmentally disabled adults, as a case worker for Big Brother/Big Sister, and as Guardian Ad Litem for abused children. She was consistently an advocate for the disadvantaged, also volunteering regularly in the public school and in annual holiday gift drives. She spent countless hours at the ice rink and could be found most summer weekends out garage saling with friends.

She is survived by one brother, Wallace Kalscheuer of Minneapolis, and two children: Michael Peterson and his family, Melissa, Nolan, and Ryan of Owatonna; and Michelle Clark and her family, Joel, Nina, and Tessa of St. Louis.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Peterson, and her son, Matthew Peterson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2pm at the Owatonna Arts Center with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Owatonna Big Brothers/Big Sisters, 545 Dunnell Dr, Owatonna, MN 55060
