Osmund D. Miller

My greatest memory of Leroy has been with me for 50 years. It was a 50 mile canoe trip to the Boundary Waters with three great friends: Leroy, Jerry Bowdin and Steve Revor. Ten days of pure fun and adventure.
In those days, none of us could cook, but that didn't stop us.

I will always remember the contest we had while there. We were in the middle of a lake, Jerry's dad, Asher, thought we should take along a new rubber-coated anchor that he purchased for about $25. Well, we didn't have it for very long because our contest was to stand up in the canoe, swing the anchor around our head and let it fly.

Do you know what? Leroy was the first to try. He grabbed the rope, swung the anchor around his head a couple times, and let it fly. And fly it did. The only problem was that Jerry forgot to tie the anchor to the canoe, and that was the last we saw of that baby.

Leroy and Jerry both learned that when you go on a trip like this that you take a modest amount of food with you. The only problem was that all of their food was in cans. Cans are heavy, and they soon learned that on the first portage we had to make. Not only did they have to pack them in, they also had to pack them out.

Leroy, I know you are greatly missed by your beautiful wife, Kristy, but also by your children and all of your friends.

You will forever be in our hearts. Ozzie Miller
