Strom, Dallas L.

A minister of the gospel for 37 years. Dallas was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 25, 1942, the son of Scandinavian parents Florence and Howard Strom. On March 24, 2008, he entered into the presence of his Abba Father. Dallas was grateful for His Swedish heritage, drawing strength and wisdom from his family roots. Dallas graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1960 and attended the University of Minnesota. He married Linda his bride and best friend on April 2, 1963. The following year he surrendered his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He joined the Lay Staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1971. In 1974 Dallas and Linda founded Discipleship Unlimited in Milwaukee, WI. In 1986Dallas and Linda began ministering in Texas prisons. They moved to Texas in 2003 to be closer to those they served "behind the fences". That same year, Dallas was diagnosed with cancer. During these past five years Dallas had been an inspiration to those who walked with him. He spoke of finding treasure in the darkness. He walked in victory knowing that Jesus had conquered death. So much love and prayer were poured out on Dallas from his family and many friends. His favorite story became that of the man on the stretcher whose friends carried him to Jesus. So many friends sacrificed time, money and energy to help make this a joyful journey. Prayer times were formed in prisons. Dallas was so grateful for those "behind the fences" who faithfully believed God for him. Dallas is survived by his mother Florence and three brothers, David, John and Wally. They recently came to Texas and ministered together with Dallas in the prison. He also is survived by a brother-in law, Larry Bogart. Larry was a soul mate and friend. Dallas had the joy of parenting three sons. He will live on in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Terry and wife Jean live in Texas and serve on the Discipleship Unlimited staff. They have picked up the baton and are in the race. His first grandson Jake has brought 15 years of adventure into Dallas' life and has tenderly cared for him in his illness. Thomas, his middle son, lives in Milwaukee, WI. Tom visited and called and brought comfort to his Dad. Steve and his wife Lynn live in New Jersey. Sunday afternoon and Monday night football found Steve and Big D. coaching and cheering even via telephone. Their children Stephen and Julia were a treasure beyond words. Dallasloved being their Papa. Yes Stephen, Jesus is bigger than PaPa. Although we will miss our beloved "Big D.", friend, Papa, father, and husband we know we will soon be together again. We look forward with confidence to our heavenly bodies in our eternal home with Jesus. II Corinthians 5:5-6 Celebration Service will be on Saturday, March 22, 2008, 2:00 PM at Hill Point Church, 2500 W. Brown Deer Rd., River Hills, WI 53217

On Sunday, April 3rd 2011, I was checking The Class of 1960 website to update myself on what was happening in the lives of my classmates. I came across Dallas Strom and saw the obit icon. It took me back a ton.

I attended Miles Standish Grade School with Dallas,Jim Niehanhausen (sp), Jimmy Batten, (class of 1961.) Were solid pals and chums. As I pondered this news bulletin of Dallas passing, I though back to a time when three little boys snuck into the Nile Theater and sat there for hours seeing everything that was airing that weekend. We dida lot of stuff and stayed friends tup to graduation from RHS.

I read further on the obituary notice. Dallas found Jesus Christ and becam a minister of the Gospel. Well that made my day. If anyone reads this, please check my profile and send me an email.

To God be the glory what a great thing He did in Dallas' likfe and I am sure in countless others he encountered and new better the Jimmy Jimmi and me. Never forget...

"God is Good, All the Time!"
