2014-Still taking piano lessons--I especially enjoy playing duets (Mozart, Haydn, others), and working on my very slowly-improving French. My Spanish is still intact after 15 years of retirement. I've slowed down somewhat on traveling, but did manage to make it to Venice three years ago, France and Spain two years ago, and Paris last year. Spent the 2011 Christmas in a very rainy Seattle with my former wife Helen, and my daughter Anne and her family, and for my delayed Christmas present I got a left knee replacement--a sign of the future? That turned out well, but I would like to avoid the 2nd knee. Seattle for Christmas again this past year--always good to return to my old home town. Hope all the 49ers still standing make it to the next reunion in 2014. Wow! I first said that in 2004--but I still mean it!

School Story:

I came as a senior to MCHS from Lake Washington High in Kirkland, WA in January, 1948. I should have been able to graduate in June,1948, but I found I was so far behind in Mr. Miller's Chemistry class that I had to drop it and take Chemistry in the following year (1948-49). That's how I had the good luck to graduate with the '49ers, to share a dual editorship of the Konah with Gloria McDonough Doty, to set a record for getting more pink slips to get out of class than anyone else (I was doing work for the Konah!), to have more study halls than anyone else (in which I devoured the 19th C. English, French and Russian novel), to play a small part in "I Killed the Count" (during which I got to know Ms. Mary V. Harris better), to learn how to flyfish with Lee Woodward in the Bitterroot, and to meet more great people than I would ever find in college. It was a memorable year and a half and it's not over yet!
