Now (he) will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honors out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Mark's death and I pray for the peace of God to comfort his wife and family in their tragic loss. I got to know Mark sitting next to him in biology in seventh grade and playing across the line from him in ninth grade. Whether it was the books or opposing linemen, Mark was a hard hitter. Riding back and forth from Mobile to Tuscaloosa with him, he never let on that he was any different than any other student, but I knew better. I knew several guys on the football team at Bama, lots of tough guys, several guys who were tough and smart, but guys like Mark who were tough, smart and humble were a rare breed. RTR
While checking the memorials I saw that Carolyn passed away. My belated condolences to her family. She was loved by all and a credit to Davidson and the University. If I could be at the reunion, I'd ask the band to play "Color My World" in her memory and try to imagine her doing the flute solo.
If I'd known how to talk to girls, I would have told her how really fine looking and how sweet she was. Since she prolly heard that a lot, I guess it's okay I didn't. But I still wish I had.
Don't forget the lostest, blackest sheep of all...Sellers.
Only learned today on this page of Henry's death and felt I should share a couple of fond memories, one funny, the other poignant. Though a Murphy grad, Henry was a DHS running back his freshman year. He never wore a mouthpiece that I recall, mostly I think because that would have kept him from yelling things like, "Move out of the way fatty!!" as he was trying to get through. (Couldn't tell if he was talking to O or D linemen).
Lost track of Henry after the big school zone changes but I think of him every time I read one of my favorite poems from William Blake's, Songs of Innocence and of Experience, "The Tyger". Henry took art lessons in first grade and I vividly remember one of his paintings he brought to show at school one day, a tiger crouching in the jungle. That colorful tiger "burning bright in the forests of the night" was far better than Blake's own.
Don't tell me you haven't been to Dothan as an excuse for not calling me.

Okay K.T., looks like it's time for you to do your shepherd thing and start rounding up the old flock. See if you can get your crook around Spearing and Kenyon for starters. Hey to Lynn.
