Juli, my son Michael leaves for the Marines June 15th. We are proud, excited, and terrified. I am sure these are the same feelings my parents had when I left for the Marines December 26, 1983. It is with great respect and admiration that I salute anyone who has either taken up this position or is about to. I encourage your son in all his endeavors. I will also be glad to see you soon, to support you as a parent. I hear your call.

I just stumbled across this site, what a great idea! I hate I missed the reunion but happy it sounds as though you all had a GREAT time.

Dan, I would be happy to contribute to the gift, good idea. Did anyone decide what we would do in terms of a gift, contribution etc?

To EVERYONE, while our very little "Class Gift" sub-committee is not ready yet to get too many things posted or flying around on the Class Gift idea just yet, we are working on putting this into action right now. Some basic groundwork is being developed to make this a reality.
* We are making the necessary contacts at the school for reviews and approvals of any ideas.
* We are gathering some initial ideas and doing background research on costs, timetables, feasibility, etc. as we want to make sure that we have things that are wanted/needed by the school, affordable, and approved first.
* We will be sharing some ideas for people in our class to vote on and get comments, and would even entertain more ideas during this process. But we want to try and keep it focused on a few options if possible so we get it accomplished for 2009
* We will most likely work with others in our class in the near future for more input and help, as well as with Cathy and Tracy to help us post a survey on this site sometime soon, but this will take a little time.

Please be patient and hang in there, as some more information will follow soon. In the end, we all understand that we are in very odd (and difficult) economic times. We are also very sure that with a class like ours of 700+, that many of us may have possibly lost jobs, have debt issues, mortgage issues, and are possibly struggling. We only ask that we everyone consider providing a small donation of what you can, for a gift back to the school, and from OUR Class of '83. We all recieved a good foundation of knowledge from the school and faculty, and also had some good times that have grown now into great memories. We are hopeful that the students today have at least as good of an experience as we all did, thus a "gift back" is the idea. Regardless of what we collect, the amounts donated, or even if you can't donate, this gift in the end is going to be from OUR ENTIRE CLASS. So it is from all, and represents us all. More to come!

Mmmm, turkey! Happy Thanksgiving! Times are tough, but we can still be thankful for family, friends and health. Any sign of that class photo, Gretta?

For those of us from Coolidge Jr. High, I found some old Coolidge newspapers and a photo from the Daily Dispatch...and added them to my photos.

Calling all Garfield kids. I have posted Mrs. Copeland's 6th grade class AND Mrs. Jones' morning kindergarden class. I have the names, not posted, for Mrs. Jones' class and I'm not sure about one person in the 6th grade pic. The pics are on my profile. Enjoy!

Gerald (Jerry) Kell

That's great, Lynn! I can't name everyone in that 6th grade photo, but I do see in no particular order, you, Rick Anderson, Brad Bjork, Gretta, Devra Pollard, Penny Kave and Dan Friedan. I also see a lot of faces I recognize but can't quite put a name to at the moment. Please remember this is from my fractured memory, so all names are subject to be totally wrong! Thanks for sharing!

Lynn Weichman (Markum)

Hey Jerry, you did pretty well with the names. I always giggle when I see Rick Anderson in the 6th grade pic. I remember why he was rolling his eyes. :)

I'll post the names under the pics in a couple days. I'm curious if anyone can name everyone...so far it doesn't look good. Although some people have named quite a few, no one has gotten them all. I've had no takers on the kindergarden pic.

MHS Class of '83 Tampa Residents,

My wife just received orders and we will move to Tampa in early (Jan-Feb) 2010. Neither of us have spent any time in or around Tampa. Can anyone provide some insight on quality places to look for housing? We plan to keep our San Diego home and rent in Tampa.

Any information or advice would be appreciated.

Hey Brad,
I would suggest contacting Heather(Wolf)Erickson. She lives in Lutz and has for some years. I'm sure she can steer you in the right direction. What luck for you, going from one warm place to another! By the way it's freezing here today! Take care and have a happy holiday!

Well its the Christmas holidays. Here is a special invite to all the Class of 1983. Join Jon Ossian (Class of 1985) for his annual Christmas Party at the Wunder Y in Moline. This is Jonny's 18th Annual Christmas party. It is an event not to be missed. If you have never been or were to afraid to attend, now is the time. Come join in this holiday event and bring your Holiday Cheer up to a respectable level. No Kids. No Hassles. No Gifts(unless you want to buy that certain someone the greatest of all gifts, a beer). Come celebrate the Christmas Holiday in the best way that Jonny knows how; with a drink among friends. Even if you don't know Jon, you know someone who does. Why not kick off your Christmas with all of your friends at Jonny O's 18th Annual Christmas Party? The Party begins at 7:00pm on Friday December 19th. I hope to see all of you there. Merry Christmas!

Joe,
I really enjoyed the grade school photo. You know Mrs. Collins was a tough teacher. If I remember correctly she was a southern belle?

Who's the girl between Scott Senatra and Jeff Kolb? Alphie Bivens that's a face from the past and of course my buddy Dean.
Thanks for the Memories

While I don't remember him personally the person in this article is a class of '83 grad. Makes you think how lucky we are to have what we have and do what we do. Wish I could buy him a meal or something but living in Florida would make that difficult so if you see him take a minute, say hello and thank god you're not in his position. Happy New Year

dave he was from Coal Valley I remember him too he used to run around with James Dean. I live downtown Moline and have seen him around down here but never knew it was Jeff I know next time I'll give a helping hand

Tracy Burdick (Reitan)

Can anyone think of anything we could maybe do for him?

for those of you who use to hang out at the B.V.I. Jim Early who was the bartender there and Kris Klier's uncle passed away on sunday the 18th he was a great man and will be missed by many I am so sorry Kris my deepest, sincere thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow

01/25/09 04:41 PM #241

Kelly Froberg

We all handle crisis differently. I wish we knew it wasn't drugs or alcohol that put Jeff there. Otherwise what a great way to let him know we as a class didn't forget him. We could take up a collection for him a donation from anyone willing to give whatever they can(I know times are scary )but if your reading this you aren't in Jeffs position. Maybe our class writer could do a follow-up on Jeff. What a great attribute it would be for our class to show compassion for one of our own. I will keep watching to see if anyone is interested.Take care

Kris Klier (Rossa)

Thanks Erik. He was always the life of the party and he will be missed.
