Okay, I have a goofy memory from Garfield concerning Jon Castro: apparently I was "going with" Scott Reynolds (probably for all of a day-LOL!) and Jon came up to me after school, dropped a pencil in front of me and told me that Scott was "dropping me like a pencil" Hilarious!!!
Also remember those ridiculously competitive four-square games-I think Kris and Gretta were always the top dogs there!
I know this is supposed to be a High School site but sure is fun reminising all the way back to grade school!

Well Hi there Jenny. It is so good to hear from you. I have a great memory but I do not remember doing that pencil dropping thing. If that was done in a rude or mean way, I would like to take this opportunity 31 years or so later to apologize for that. I must have been Scotts dating campaign manager, coordinator, or something like that at that time.

Apology accepted Jon! LOL! I think I probably recovered pretty quickly!
Gretta, when are you going to post Mrs. Copeland's 6th grade picture?!

Hey Dave
I'll dig up some old Butterworth and Wilson pics. Unlike some of you peeps my memory is as sharp as a tack! Ummmm what were we talking about? oh yea, I'll post pics soon. :p I love this website!!!

To this day I tell the kids I coach about the nasty curveball one of the pitchers (Jon Castro) threw when we were in Babe Ruth. That thing should have been illegal!

Dan Hale

Robert - I agree. I can still remember the first time I saw that &^#$ curve ball. I jumped out of the way, the ump called strike and I was embarassed to no end. I'm sure I struck out. I did get even though. Jon hung one of those curve balls in batting practice a few years later and I smacked it up the middle and Jon took it off the back. Hah!

Class Gift ?!?!

I'd like to open a discussion regarding the Class of '83 making a class gift to the High School or the district as a whole. The recent reunion has spawned some good old fashion school spirit and it may be a good time to harness some of that energy and enthusiasm, pool a little bit of resources from the 695 people in our class and give a little back.

The way I see it, of the 100 or so people that attended the reunion and the other 100 or so that wished they could have gone but didn't, we shoud be able to raise several thousands of dollars and do something nice and lasting. I have some ideas, however I'd like to get a feel for the interest and e-storm some ideas.

Any thoughts?

GREAT idea, Dan! What do you have in mind?

Heather Wolf (Erickson)

Dan,

I am in too...let us know what you have up your sleeve. What the heck, we can't win the float competition but we can leave our mark another way!

I think that sounds great. Put some ideas out on the table!

Jon Castro

Gretta, I am sorry I missed the reunion, especially that fun discussion with you, Dan F., Erik, and Kris about the good ole Garfield days. It sounded like alot of fun. I am sure you'll agree that there is a special friendship or bond between people that went all the way through school together from kindergarten to high school. Although I was in Mrs. Andersons class, that photo of Mrs. Copelands class should be great if you can find it.

Robert P. and Dan H., thanks for the kind words about my curve ball. You guys were fun teammates both in high school and college (Dan, remember our Blackhawk "Bad News Braves" statebound jr. college baseball team? that was a riot).

11/07/08 12:35 PM #206

Dan Hale

Jon,
I believe you misunderstood Robert and I. We still begrudge for that curve ball. You stole our confidence. You wrecked our child hood. At this very moment we are scheming to get even with you.

Blackhawk baseball was great time. Remember the back-to-back no hitters? That was tense.

I also recall running into you on Sixth street in Champaign when you were at the State Patrol or Police Academy down there. I think that was the last time I saw you. Glad you are doing well.

Deidre Dombek (Lindahl)

Dan,

I also recall a memory of you in Champaign. Remember when you were the Manager of The White Horse Tavern? I came in to have ONE little drink with my friend. You thought you were being nice when you bought me not one or two, but THREE vodka tonics ... and they were STRONG ones!! Needless to say, my friend had to walk me home. I was then and still am a lightweight!! Haaaaaaaaaaaa!! :)

Gretta! what the heck Rain Man! I was laughing my butt off at you naming all the kids in the picture! Dee...I found my 7th grade track t-shirt!!! Hi Dan Hale!! and count me in too for a gift the high school...

I too would like to thank all that have served. My husband served in the first gulf war in the Navy. I have never served abroad, but I really enjoyed my time in the Army. I am grateful to those who have gone before us. God bless the USA!

Sorry if I put you over the top. That's what you get for havng all that energy and perpetual positive attitude. No one knows if you're drunk on life or drunk on drink.

I'll buy you just one in five years. Hopefully sooner.

Hi all! What nice comments about our classmates serving in the military. My son turns 18 in February and wants to go in the Air Force. I'm scared to death but proud that he wants to serve our country. Someone in Moline call me - I need support!!!! :)
