Lets see-
Graduated from ISU and worked for a year at Morton Community Bank. Good starting job but I found out that it was just a bit too small for me. I wanted to work and live in a bigger place, so I left the job and went back to school for IT.
Received an internship at ABN AMRO in Chicago, which grew into a full time job doing desktop support. After a few years of that I was moved to trading support and eventually became the lead of a team of 5 supporting everything trading related. At that point, we got outsourced to EDS (of Ross Perot fame) and I was introduced to a certain mentor out of NYC.
Time passed and eventually ABN AMRO was chopped into pieces and sold off- I was insourced to a financial institution that I was just not feeling.. something had to change. Starting a couple years before, I had started travelling to see the world and broaden my horizons. I had gone to places like Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Costa Rica, and finally Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It was on the Thailand trip that I met a Cuban/Puerto Rican girl from New Jersey (how weird is that). A couple months later I had a reunion trip in New Orleans with several people from the trip and it was there that I started Dating Annie. After a year of a long distance relationship, I decided to quit my job from this new financial institution, sell my townhome, and move in with the Jersey girl. It was quite the gamble.
Having met Annie in Thailand and stared dating in New Orleans, I proposed to her in San Francisco on the way to Bali, Indonesia. We ended up having a beach wedding in Key West. Yes- big fan of travelling a few years ago.
When I got back from my wedding, that certain mentor from NYC called me and asked if I was doing anything.. nope.. rest is history. I am now a mid/senior level manager with Hewlett Packard supporting financial accounts.
I chuckle to myself sometimes- I remember thinking that Morton Community Bank was nice but a bit small for me.. now I am working in the financial sector in NYC. Never thought I would end up here in a million years, but here I am.
I count myself very fortunate.. Annie is wonderful and Nate is simply amazing. My private life is good, and my working life is crazy and a bit stressful, but I can't complain.
