As near as I can remember Lynda died in 1965 or 66 in a house fire in her own home.  Oddly enough, my mother's best friend died the same way.  History repeated itself in its own inimitable way.  Everyone survived by Lynda.  She was my nearest and dearest friend through high school and for a while at Northwestern.

Lynda had a brother named Rusty who was just a bit older.  She invited me to dinner one night and Rusty told me about a diet he was on drinking Metracal (remember that stuff?)  Well, he just couldn't figure out why he wasn't losing weight as he was drinking a can of it at every meal. Go figure!

We had many fun times together.  I think she even went with me downtown Pittsburgh to check out the morgue.  We rode the streetcar and then started walking in what we thought was the right direction.  We saw a policeman and asked if we were on the right street.  He then picked up my wrist and held it for a few moments and said, "Why do YOU want the morgue?  You're still alive."  Smart aleck.

Although Lynda is gone I definitely won't forget her!

Linda Brodmerkel (Parks)

The bridge games, the sleepovers, the pep squad and flash card section and all the fun times at Mt. Lebanon remain in my memory and Lynda is there with them.  We renewed/kept our friendship after college when she worked at Mellon Bank "below" me in the U.S. Steel Building in downtown Pittsburgh and had lunch together a lot - also played bridge a lot - again!  Her death in the fire in her family's newly built home a week before Christmas touched me deeply and I still hold her in my memory as a great person and a dear friend - even if she didn't know how to spell her name right, like me!  You have been missed and thought of, Lynda - Love, Linda
