I just finished reading Larry's obituary in a Ft. Wayne, Indiana, newspaper.  Here are some facts from the obituary:

  • Larry died in Ft. Wayne on 19 November 2010 and was survived by his wife, Lois, and his daughter, Carol.
  • He was a 1965 graduate of Purdue University where he majored in Electrical Engineering, and was known as "Vic" to at least one of his roommates.
  • He was in the Army after college and worked for years in various capacities for Magnavox.
  • He was very active in his church.
  • He loved being a ham radio operator and was the editor of a local ham operator newsletter.
  • He also loved music, photography, and computers (surprise).

I looked up Larry's obituary because I am very interested to learn about the time he spent in the Army after college, but I was not able to find out any details other than to verify the fact that he was a Captain in the Corps of Engineers.

If anyone has any information regarding Larry's tour of duty in the Army, I would love to hear about it.  If I find out anything, I will update these comments.

In high school Larry looked really, really smart because he was really, really smart.  He led a full, albeit prematurely shortened, life of some 67 years and is missed.

Jay

I recall once when we were in the same class and on the first day the teacher asked him his name. Of course he replied 'Larry Guess'. The teacher who must not have had a proper list in front of her was incensed and demanded "No, I do not want to 'guess', tell me your name".  He had the wry sense of humor to carry it off. Made a boring school-day much more fun.
