Well, I guess I'll tell my story!
I didn't get into the Air Force Academy due to being color blind, so I went to NTCC for 2 years since it was free! I was planning on transferring to East Texas State to take ROTC, but they shut down the detachment when I was a Sophomore. I really didn't want to get student loans to go someplace else and was kicking around different degree programs, but never felt peace on one specific degree.
My life changed one day at church leading up to the first Gulf War in 1991. I'm pretty sure it was the day of NFL Conference Championship games and my message was that it was God's will for me to enlist in the military. I never planned on being enlisted and had always wanted to be an officer. Anyway, the Navy had always wanted me and I actually agreed to join since I could never get the AF recruiter to call me back. I went to MEPS in Dallas, but backed out on the Navy even though it was going to be worth several thousand dollars of free money. This time the AF recruiter called me back and I went to Basic on June 4, 1991. I just went over 18 years and my 20 year prediction of being in the Air Force came true!
After Basic in San Antonio, they sent me to Wichita Falls and I had a blast. I was in Anchorage, Alaska for 3 years, then went to Dover, Delaware for 3 more. I spent 4 years in Pusan, South Korea and have been back in Texas since Oct 2001 (First in Converse outside San Antonio and Wichita Falls since 2005).
I am who my dad never was. He hated West Texas and always wanted to live in East Texas. I love West Texas, Texas Tech, and can't wait to get those new license plates with the Davis Mountains on them!
Besides the Associates I got from NTCC, I got another Associates from the Air Force and a Bachelors in Political Science. I would've gone back to get a Masters, but kids and getting married got in the way!
My life has been a blast. Besides my assignments, I've deployed 5 times to Kuwait (Twice), Qatar, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan. All these locations and my various other official travels have allowed me to travel all over the U.S., Canada, and many places around the world. The baby that used to move his finger all over maps grew up to actually do it as an adult! I've been to most of the major sports events that we have in America and am thankful that God has let me enjoy the ride.
I got married while I was in Korea and had 2 kids over there. Joy and Joanna are interesting to say the least! Joy is just like me, but Joanna is like her mother. I tried to get custody of them in the divorce, but the judge wouldn't do it.
In a lot of ways I'm still a big kid, but that led to me buying my dream car. I never liked convertibles or 2-door cars, but BMW M5's have to be the best cars in the world. They have 4 doors, a trunk, luxury, and with a minimal amount of work on the cars can hit 200 MPH! I want fast cars that can haul a few people around. I might've never been a BMW fan if it weren't for the Willingham twins in high school!
I might as well throw the future in here. I want to get married again and actually find somebody this time that is fit for marriage and still want a son (My ex-wife had the girls, but she also had 1-2 miscarriages). I've done pretty much everything I ever wanted to do, but there are still a few sports events I want to go to and a few places/things to do in the United States and Canada even though I've been to all the states and provinces. It's pretty much just tying up loose ends. I'd like to have some good trips to Australia and Europe, and outside of that a little in South America, Egypt, China, and somehow get to Antarctica!
I'm not as quiet now as I was in high school! I always talked a lot with friends, but I'm more open in general now.
