Gerald (Jerry) Smith

After several years I finally found what I wanted to do. In 1973 I started with the Caldwell Police Department and married my wife Nancy that same year. I was a patrol officer for 11 years. In 1984 I started with the Idaho State Police and my first assignment was being stationed in Mountain Home. (what a coincidence). I was then selected for a special task force and moved back to Caldwell. My wildest dream was to be a motor officer, otherwise CHIPS. In 2000 I was assigned to the motor team and then retired in 2004. However retirement didn't last long. Six months went by when I received a call form the Canyon County Sheriff, he offered me a part time position (didn't want to work full time again) as a deputy sheriff and I'm still there.

In 1958 we moved to Mountain Home from Kansas I really enjoyed living in a small town and going to Jr. high and a great high school. I enjoyed boy scouts and all of the fun we had going to camp Wilson. There were good times and bad times, but good always outweighs the bad. In my senior year we moved to Nampa, Idaho where I graduated from Nampa High. But truthfully I still consider myself a Mountain Home Tiger.

For the past 20 years I have worked part time for the Canyon County Sheriff's Office which keeps me in good shape physically and mentally.
Enjoy my motorcycle trips and restoring classic cars. The best thing I can say is that growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
