Judy Bouton Vanarnam

When I graduated from high school I went to Muskegon Community College for one year. I then started a job at the old curtain roll on Muskegon Lake, I think it was called Brennens? I then took some time off work to raise my children. In 1981 I went to Grand Rapids with my brother Mike and put my application in for GM (not even thinking that I would get hired) and I got the Job. This started my career with GM. I started as a production worker and held that position for about ten years. I applied for a skilled trade position-a Pattern Maker and was accepted. I went to Grand Rapids Community College and served a four year apprenticeship and then became a Pattern Maker. I retired in 2006 from GM. After retiring I now have the time to do all of the things that I couldn't do when I was working. I went back to MCC and took a few classes, my core classes, computer class and web design. I love anything to do with computers, I built four computers and I have taken two laptops apart and repaired them and put them back together. I have also repaired friends computers for the fun of it. I make soap, candles and lotions. I knit and crochet, I made baby blankets for my grand children and great grandsons. I have taken a few sewing classes and I am now making my first quilt. I kayaked this last summer for the first time and can't wait to do it again this summer.

I don't have a favorite teacher, but I really enjoyed school and was sorry to see it end. I enjoyed the dances, the foot ball games and the people. What our class shared and was about was special to me.
