Rhonda Pitts (Adkins)

Rhonda Pitts (Adkins)

Rhonda Jean (Pitts) Adkins, 59, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 4, 1960 to Floyd William Pitts and Cora Jean (Holder) Pitts in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Rhonda graduated from Muskogee High School with the class of 1978.

She married the love of her life, Walter Adkins, on March 16, 2013. Walt made sure they got to go to the beach and put their toes in the sand.

Rhonda worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for many years. After that she worked very hard to obtain a 2 star accreditation for her home daycare. Rhonda provided lots of smiles for her kids, who she adored. Her son, Max, and niece, Chloe, were both only children but they got to feel like they were from big families with all the daycare kids. Rhonda subsequently retired from the Veterans Affairs Regional Office. She was extremely proud of her ability to help veterans and their families on the phone.

Music always played a very important part of her life. She sang and swayed on stage at First Freewill Baptist Church. Walt and Rhonda went to every live concert she could “convince” him to go to. Her goal was to get to the front of the stage and have Walt take her picture of her with the singers. She was amazingly successful at almost every concert.

Rhonda loved flowers and plants of all kinds. She inherited her green thumb from her Granny Holder.

She fought amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with all her might to be at the hospital when her precious granddaughter, Hattie, was born. Holding her and loving on her these past few months was her greatest joy.

Rhonda is definitely singing in Heaven right now with her mom and daddy watching on. Praise the Lord that she has her beautiful voice back and her body is whole again.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Cora Pitts.

Rhonda is survived by her husband Walter Adkins; son, Max Dunn and wife Megan Dunn; stepchildren, Tony Adkins and Allan Adkins; granddaughter, Hattie Dunn; step-grandsons, Jordan Adkins and Cash Adkins; sister, Ramona Peak and husband Steve Peak; niece, Chloe (Ford) Linn and husband Josh; and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to The Oklahoma ALS Association at: P.O. Box 14482 Tulsa, OK 74159, or at: www.alsa.org/community/chapters/oklahoma-expansion.html. The family has chosen to have a private family service. Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com.
