Throughout our education in Muskogee, we all knew ...or, we thought we knew...how smart and how talented Judy Cleo was.  When she entered med school I wasnt the least bit surprised.  When she chose anesthesiology as her specialty, I accepted that then went on my merry little mundane way.  I entered the medical field as a psychiatric nurse but throughout my practice there was always a connection to other specialties, so my appreciation for the anesthesiologist began to increase.  Also adding to that growth process was my experience with Electric Shock Treatment (giving it,not receiving it); participating in that during my time @Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa and @Knud Hansen Hospital in the West Indies, I became even more acutely aware of how the practice of anesthesiology is so extraordinary, in fact the MOST CRITICAL ASPECT OF ANY SURGERY OR PROCEDURE .  To top off my side bar education of that specialty, my Uncle Glen Berkenbile pounded his views into my head from the time I was 11 having a decayed tooth filled in Dr. Overmyer's Muskogee office.  Uncle Glen, a surgeon who had just completed a residency @Parkland Hospital, Dallas, convinced my father of the dangers of anesthesia/WHO administers it to the point that daddy forbid Dr. O. to deaden the area;  instead, daddy forcibly held me in the chair while my cavity was drilled/fillED without any local anesthesia.  As I got older and my body began breaking down, there were a series of surgeries....I had studied the crop of anesthesiologists in Tulsa, chose carefully, always double checked my choice with my Uncle Glen...BECAUSE by that time in my life and career I knew fully well that the anesthesiologist was the smartest and in my opinion the most talented person in the operating room.  Picking a surgeon is a piece of cake compared to choosing the person who is going to place you in a suspended state of death then bring you back to life just before you cross over to the otherside....  I suppose it was during my Fifties that I began to fully realize what a gift Judy Cleo Robbins possesses.  The TALENT/INTUITION a physician brings to anesthesiology is woven into the body of scientific knowledge.  It is the most finely tuned, divinely inspired magic practiced by an elite few in medicine.  I would compare the anesthesiologist to a champion formula one race car driver.  I feel so proud to have Judy Cleo in our class; even more grateful to enjoy her friendship over the many years.  Her compassion has always stepped forward when her friends are in trouble.  She shares her knowledge with us.  She shares her love with us.  I guess what I am trying to say is this: we think we know someone, understand them, and try to keep up with what they are doing through life BUT unless you can fully appreciate the uniqueness of anesthesiology you only understand a portion of Judy Cleo Robbins.

    Added note:  My Uncle Glen had made such a believer of daddy over the years that when he (age 75) was to have a skin cancer removed from his ear lobe he insisted on having it done in hospital with M.D. Anesthesia.....this was a "simple" local anesthetic to his right ear; daddy had cardiac arrest on the table and was in ICU for a week following the "simple" procedure usually done in-office. 

If this little story has increased your appreciation for the talent & technique required of the specialty  Anesthesiology, then give our Judy Cleo an extra strong hug at the reunion...go ahead and give her 2 more......She deserves a gazillion!

Thanks for the update on the reunion.  You did a lot of work!  I think, however, in light of the Covid situation the decision to postpone is wise.  Update:  Gail and I are well and enjoying life.  We both like being retired.  I had an aortic valve replacement done in January.  We had discovered we liked cruising, but Covid has shut that down for us.  By the way, I find it hard to believe we have reached our late 70's, but we know we are blessed.  We wish you all good cheer and some joy each day.  Edie
