A really good friend......a really good athlete considering the lack of vision in his left eye.....very competitive at everything....even pinball....a near professional bowler.....I never knew Jerry to be a great student, but after he finished a tour in the Navy he came back to Oklahoma and got a degree in Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State, I was always very impressed with that. I remember asking him how he got in the military with his vision problem....he said he got his draft notice (like a lot of us) and went to take the physical , when it came to the eye exam the DR. told him to read the fourth line of the chart, Jerry told him he couldn't, the Dr. said to move forward to the point where he could read it.......so typical Jerry......he walked to the chart, put his nose against it and said I STILL CAN'T READ IT! He got his 1-A classification a few days later, joined the Navy and went on to be a Veterinarian. I wish we could have another one of those marathon golf days at Western Hills.
