Gene and I were best friends for 35 years. I was with him. When he passed away from lung cancer and diabetes at St. John's in Tulsa at the end of 1990. Gene grew up with very little money, but banker John Hannah helped him get started in two very successful businesses. Having money never changed Gene. Gene loved to be the clown and jokester, but he was always the kindest and most thoughtful person. Gene also looked up to and admired Claude Dean, Deanna's father, from his days at Jefferson. He was also the first boy I ever kissed and as longtime buddies we went to see hundreds of movies at the Ritz.
Gene and I were good friends for a long time.We lived close together. My father and his father were good friends.
I had met Gene's mother when we were at West Junior High.He was one of the nicest guys,I ever knew.I remember when he sold shoes.I was sorry to learned,he had died.
