I was walking one evening when Dean (Elsey) and Donna drove by in Dean's customized, white '55 Chevy convertible. They asked if I wanted to go to a movie with them, so the three of us went downtown to the Ritz. Driving around afterwards on a beautiful night with the top down, Dean asked me to open the glove compartment and hand Donna an ordinary looking brown paper sack that was inside. Lo and behold, out cometh a diamond engagement ring! A squel and laughter from Donna, a big grin from Dean, and, after congratulations from me, the feeling of being a third wheel set in and I asked them to drop me off back at the house, which they did after making a stop at Russ' Drive-In. We all used to laugh that I was BY FAR the first to know about their engagement.....
It's hard to believe that not only has Donna left us, but that Dean passed away not that long after. I feel so bad for their son, Michael, who has now lost both of his parents within such a short time.
