Reunion Notes:

NNHS Batch '89............15 Years Later

(Editorial for the 15th Year Reunion Souvenir Publication in 2004 by Jonathan B. Junio)

On the afternoon of March 19, 1989, with eagerness and anticipation on what lies ahead of an uncharted future, 746 graduating students paraded through the Nabua Municipal Social Hall to receive their diplomas. A decade and a half later, a certain percentage of this batch convenes to reminisce the good old high school days, a period in our educational journey that is considered as the best and which registers with the most vivid details in our memory.

What was once an uncharted territory has now become a common ground. The fifteen years that lapsed have molded us into individuals that we have probably not imagined we would become before. Pursuing careers and callings, seeing places, getting married, raising families took center stage in recent events of our adult lives. When it was ourselves that we placed first in the past, our present taught us to prioritize our families, the people that we serve and share our daily lives with, our sources of income, our responsibilities in the community and even the environment. As in other batches, we were led into various fields of endeavor. We may have different journeys taken and crossroads hurdled but all of these converge into what we can consider a fitting summation of our given lives - that we have etched a mark into the lives of others and earned a place in this world.

At this point in time, we look back to 15 memorable years of varied experiences - events that if we would share to others through words would spill over a journal of memories. The 2004 reunion serves its purpose then of letting Batch '89ers see each other after all these years, know how everybody has gone through these tumultuous years and share lessons in life learned along the way. This is also a time to renew friendhips to discuss current issues and reflect on the future.

It is definite that we will leave this get-together with enough impression of where we have been, what we have become and where we would be going. It would be rewarding to know that a fraction of our lives crossed and was shared in this seedbed - an oftentimes-flooded ground that is our alma mater. For four years from June 1985 to March 1989, NNHS had become a silent witness to those years of uncertainty, periods of unexpected changes and discoveries.

We may not see each other that often now but recent advances in technology have connected us through various communication means that were all unavailable during our decade. Who could have thought that text messaging will easily replace to some extent the telegrams in the past and e-mail eclipse what is now a faltering but still existing postal mail? These and other forms of information now readily available help us cross barriers of communicaton and enable most of us, if not all get "connected".

The time that we will be spending together during this year's reunion would be brief but this would surely be significant and memorable. This year (2004) we are glad to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We may not all be present in this occasion but it is with great pride and joy that we managed to organize it to renew friendships, refresh our memories and probably rekindle old flames during our high school years. Surely, goodbyes are not forever because somewhere along our life's journey, our path will cross again. We may never know what is exactly in the future now but years ahead, we expect to see each other again for sure - in another place and time.

Messages from Reunion Presidents:

Being elected as the President of our batch is indeed an honor but not an easy task. At first I was so hesitant but later on I became optimistic that I can do it for I believe that the NNHS Class '89 is composed of supportive and determined individuals.

Today, I have proven it right! Once again, we were able to make it - to be gathered again to celebrate our 20th anniversary reunion. Yes, it has been 20 years since we left the portals of our beloved Alma Mater. I had that feeling of joy and excitement as April 30 comes nearer and nearer. At last we are given the chance to see each other again, to reminisce the past, to share our experiences as well as the blessings we have, to discuss wonderful plans for our batch and for our Alma Mater as well, and to enjoy this very moment of being together again as one happy and unified batch.

Let me take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to all those who played vital roles in making this occasion a success. First to Almighty God who made all these things possible. Second, to the set of officers and active members who helped me in planning and carrying out these plans. Third, to all those who responded to our call especially to our batchmates across the miles who willingly extended their financial as well as moral support. Some may be physically absent at this moment but I'm sure their hearts and minds are with us today. And of course to all of you who are present today your presence means a lot! To all of you, thank you very much!

I know this celebration would not be that perfect. But let us take these imperfections as another challenge for our batch. May the spirit of love and unity and cooperation be always with us.

Mabuhay ang Batch '89!!!

Acila Aleman-Llorin

President, Batch '89

2004-2009

-----------------------------------------

It is with great honor and pride to welcome members and guests to the Nabua National High School Batch '89's 15th anniversary reunion on April 30, 2004 at the NNHS Alumni Hall, Nabua, Camarines Sur.

For the past 15 years, we managed to organize reunions every 5 years and on every occasion, the camaraderie of the group is noted. This year is no different from the previous reunions as I am counting on the whole-hearted support once again of the officers and members.

Today is a distinctive moment we have been waiting for. Let us reminisce once again the memories of our High School life and renew friendships with our long lost friends.

Special appreciation is extended to the current set of officers and members of the different committees who spent a fraction of their valuable time in ensuring that this event becomes a reality.

As President of the NNHS Batch '89, it is my sincere hope that the common element of our group will be solidarity and commitment. This will help us realize whatever plans we may take at present and in the future.

Mabuhay NNHS Batch '89!

(Sgd) Senen F. Salcedo

President (1999-2004)

NNHS Batch '89

BATCH '89 in 1999: A REUNION THAT WAS

On a balmy day on December 27, 1999, several days before the whole world came face to face with the new millennium, the graduating class of S/Y 1988-1989 convened after a decade since graduation. It was held at Sam's Plaza View, San Juan, Nabua, Camarines Sur.

The 1999 reunion was a whole-day affair held in two parts. The 1st part of activities started with a mass at the Holy Cross Parish Church and a motorcade (Centro-Sto.Domingo-Centro-La Opinion-Centro), then an election of officers for the 2004 reunion and ended with games in the afternoon. The 2nd part was a more formal one that included the induction of the newly elected officers, entertaining numbers from Santiago Beloro and Marijean Nierva and an inspiring message from our former 1st year adviser and English teacher, Mrs. Eleanor Lobetania-Regalado. Other guests include Mrs. Teresita Orias, Ms. Rosalind Dichoso and the families of the members. The evening's program also included the turn over ceremony from outgoing President Marlon Recepcion to the newly elected Senen Salcedo.

TOAST TO NNHS BATCH '89's 20th REUNION

                                                  By: Senen F. Salcedo

"Today, we toast our memories -- the students,

athletes, dancers, singers, writers, actors, speakers,

leaders and friends we once were -- reunited for a time,

reliving and reminiscing our shared past.

Everything that happened here

in our dear Nabua National High School,

played a big part in shaping us

in what we became now

and what the future hold for us.

So now, we return to remember,

to refresh our memories

of the youth that we were.

We honor all our teachers

who taught and guided us.

We remember old friends ---

those with us here now,

those who couldn't make it

and those who are no longer with us.

We also extend our appreciation to our parents

for all the support and encouragement

for all the hardships that they faced

just to send us to school.

Dear friends, celebrate with me

A big toast to our younger selves,

the activities, the plans and the promises.

May we all always remember with gratitude

their part in making us who we are today."

Mabuhay, NNHS Batch '89!
