Happy Birthday to Suzie, Theresa, Barbara, and Leslie!

Wow, I totally meant to get a group picture of y'all. But since Barbara didn't get to be there, I'll have to photoshop something!

Then we have Gail tomorrow and Janie on Saturday!

Happy birthday, y'all!

Where oh where oh where do I begin? First of all...JAN, CINDY, SHAWN, JUDY, and then back to JAN again...and again, and again.... I am completely stunned, nay, in shock, no, awe.. no, shock AND awe, JAN... I am adjectiveless in trying to describe the magnificence of what you do! I mean, it wasn't ENOUGH that you managed to pull off the "Odessa" reunion.... but LOUIS GOHMERT?! The whole ride back to Tyler, John kept saying..."LOUIS GOHMERT?" What's next? Loaves and fishes? If anyone could figure out a way to get the Beatles back together, it would be you...FANTASTIC!

It was fabulous, all of it, from the website, to the party at Shawn's place, the BIG party Saturday night, and Cindy's hospitality on the 6th floor. Thank you! (However, someone really needs to speak to someone at the Fredonia about the air conditioning on the 6th floor.. I went through menopause and have not voluntarily produced a hormone on my own in 16 years and even I was having hotflashes!)

And we owe it all to you, and to the rest of your wonderful henchmen and henchwomen.. I would bow down and worship you for providing us with these wonderful opportunities to get together, but I am already so completely self involved that I just don't have the time.

I also want to take this opportunity for providing us with the link to all those great pictures you took. Not many of mine turned out the way I expected, I think my camera was malfunctioning, or I was drunk, either way, thank you and Cal for documenting the occasion.

(Although, I don't want to quibble, but next time if you could and if it's not too much trouble, could you please cull the really bad ones of me out before you post? You know, the ones where I might happen to look like I'm snarling or doing a bad Joe Cocker impression...I TOO live in Tyler, you know. The rest of me were really great though but I am extremely vain and I do have my reputa.....

oh, who am I kidding.. you know what my reputation in Tyler is nowadays?..I am the crazy red headed lady that never brushes her hair and wanders the neighborhood in her painty covered clothes, no makeup, dark glasses and ugly orange rubber walking shoes with her camera in one hand taking pictures of odd arty trash while in the other hand she has the leashes of two dogs and multitudinous plastic bags for the picking up of trash and dog poo. One of my neighbors thinks I go to a lot of garage sales.

I have become that crazy neighborhood lady that yells "SLOW DOWN M.........R!" at speeding motorists as they race by and if I catch you doing it too often on my street I can hurl a bag of dog poo at your rear window with deadly accuracy. Speeders beware in Tanglewood Estates! That's MY reputation in the Rose City.)

Anyway, I had so much fun at this reunion that I lost my voice and had to go to bed for 2 days to recover. I had SO much fun at this reunion that I couldn't even walk the neighborhood in search of trash and treasures, couldn't yell at my dog, couldn't paint, didn't unpack, had to drink hot tea and eat dry toast and it wasn't until last night when I managed through the sheer power of my voice to break up a minor domestic squabble taking place across the street that I had fully recovered...THAT's how much fun I had at this reunion!

It was great to see EVERYONE! And if I hugged you a little too tight, or told you I loved you a little too often, or in anyway made you feel uncomfortable with all of my sweaty affection, well then...... there's something wrong with you... who can't have too many hugs or too many i love yous.... lighten up...

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!! (So there!)

What else can I say except I had a wonderful time. You guys are sooooo great. I do have a little story to tell--my grandmother went to her 50 year reunion, and found a man who was her classmate. His wife had died, my grandfather had died.......the rest was history. They were married for quite some time. Moral of the story--not only is it fun to see what everyone looks like, and dance and party, but you never know when the old flames will crank back up, or a new fire will start!!!!

See everyone in 5 years!

First, I have to thank Jan for a fantastic website and how she has reached out to so many people to make them feel welcome and included both here and at the reunion. Thank you Jan also so very much for all of the wonderful and unique items you donated and requested for the auction.

One of my favorite parts of the reunion was how the guys were the ones in the bidding wars on the grade school pictures.

Nick Palafox, I am still walking on air about your generosity and thoughtfulness on how you handled the Charlie Wilsons War book. Thank you so very much.

I want to thank everyone who donated items and all of the bidders. It was a awesome thing to see some of those winning bids.

I have to send a "shout out" and special thank you to Lisa Steed from the class of 75 for donating the Johnny Cash autograph.

It is kind of hard not to feel like a fossil when I see the pictures of everyones kids - and grandkids - but they sure are beautiful.

Please keep your profiles updated...

Judy B.

Hello All!

It's been a week since we began gathering in our beloved little town and I want to take this opportunity to say thanks again to all of you who were there. And to say again to those who couldn't be there how much we missed you.

I appreciate the kind words from all of you, but YOU are all the reason this reunion was a success. I can order the barbecue, arrange for a venue, and throw some pictures together along with a few Jimmy songs, but it takes all of you coming together with your sweet spirits and encouraging, accepting attitudes towards each other to make it a true reunion.

From the minute Joe Weaver showed up on the 6th floor on Friday night to the coaches and Mrs. Smith-Harvey arriving on Saturday night, it was all just so special for me.

And TERRY GERMAN, or Bob Willis as he is apparently now known, what a treat to see this guy after all these years.

Robin, you truly astound me with your all-around zest for life and wonderful story-telling ways. The dumpster dive will go down as one of my all-time fave Robin stories.

And to answer John's question about Louie Gohmert--he was my Sunday School teacher at Green Acres and Cal and I have been friends with him and Kathy for many years now. When Jimmy told me last summer that he was going to DC to lobby against illegal song downloading I knew he and Louie had to meet. And sure enough, they met and hit it off and Louie's staff is still talking about the mini-concert Jimmy did for them. So, when I found out Louie was going to be in Nac over the weekend during our reunion, I knew I had to invite him to give a special presentation to Odessa. So, I'm really not a miracle worker, we just lucked out on the timing there.

And I did invite Charlie Wilson also, but he sent his regrets. Talk about a cool photo op if he and Louie both had been there! Oh well, Louie was the first to tell me when he left that he would be there in 5 years, so y'all don't let me forget to invite him. And maybe Charlie will come in 2014 too!

Odessa--Dickey, Don, Jimmy, Ronnie--you guys were awesome. I can't remember a performance I've ever witnessed that was so special and meant so much to so many people. I can't even begin to say thanks enough to all of you. And Monte, as some of us have said on Facebook, we missed you! Maybe just one more performance with all five of you in 2014????

To Cathy Sanders, Mike P, Garry and Evelyn, Jimmy, and Terry German, all who traveled -- I hope it was worth it.

Cathy, you and your husband are so cute and I'm glad you got to come home again. You look so awesome and are still just as sweet as ever.

Mike, you are truly 'the right stuff' as they say and I couldn't be more proud that you are in my family tree.

Garry and Evelyn, y'all are just too sweet together and I am so glad you found each other. I hope Evelyn enjoyed our little neck of the woods and that y'all will get to come home for Homecoming each fall. Can't wait to see her pix. She's my girl with that camera!!

Jimmy, what can I say? You are truly a blessing to so many in our class and you get to write songs that in many ways speak of your growing up in a small town. So, vicariously we can all feel special through your music and your appreciation for our upbringing and roots. To those of you who don't know, the song on the video that I took its title from "Was It That Good" was written and sung by Jimmy. The story behind the song: last winter I was working on an article about him for the Daily Sentinel and the NHS Alumni Assoc. He tells it that we were talking so much about the old days, that he wrote that song about those days. So, that's really a song about all of us. Now, Jason Aldean or Kenny Chesney just needs to record it and we could all say, "That song was written about our high school days." And, yes, I remember, and it was that good, Jimmy!

Terry German, how special to see you again after all these years. It took Odessa reuniting to get you there, but gosh, were we all glad to see you again.

Many, many of you traveled from Dallas, places in Texas and Louisiana, and I say thanks for your efforts and hope your hotels treated you well. We loved the 6th floor and plan to always stay there whenever we have our get togethers from now on.

To our locals in Nac, so glad to see all of you. Help us get the word out that we will be getting together often and we'd love to see any and all whenever we do. Homecoming is Oct 2, so let's start planning on it right now. The football game, Shawn's after, perhaps a visit to Sunset Cemetery to take flowers on Sat morning, lunch at Clear Springs, a quick shopping trip to Gail's cute little store, then party at Banita Creek Hall on Sat night. Oct 2 and 3, be there!!!!

And in keeping with the 'let's get together more often sentiment' Bob Peppard called me yesterday, saying they have just finished a lakehouse on Lake Tyler and inviting us all to get together there BEFORE THE SUMMER IS OVER! So let's pick a date and plan on it before he and Lindy change their minds. I'm thinking August........

Shawn, you rock! I love your little corner of the world and enjoy our visits there each time I'm in Nac. Y'all go by there whenever you get a chance--they are open 24-7 so you can get a taco any time the mood strikes. I think they even stayed open last fall as Ike roared through! Your staff, the food, everything was just awesome. I know it was hard work for you and I for one cannot say thank you enough to you for hosting us.

Cindy, the decorations were beautiful. The owner of Banita Creek was heard saying he didn't know the place could look so good. You outdid yourself with the placemats and napkins. To Cris, Rose, Lisa, Karen L, Merry Ann, all who made centerpieces, helped decorate or just admired how awesome it looked--thank you all!

And Judy--my oh my--you outdid yourself with organizing the silent auction. It was so much more than I've ever seen done at a reunion and was so much more successful because of your efforts. Thanks to your team--your sister, your friend, Lisa S, Gae, Carol, Gail, Karen L, Brenda G, all who donated and all who bid. Wow is all I can say. I will be contacting the NHS Alumni Assoc next week to find out how to get them our $1000 scholarship money honoring our deceased classmates. And we now have seed money left for our next reunion! Thanks to you and your team again.

To my favorite classmate, Cal, thanks to you for being so supportive in all this. I couldn't have worked on the slideshow, made plans, set up this website, traveled here and there for meetings, done any of this without your help and understanding. From keeping my computers going, to taking the kids out to dinner, to just sitting and listening to me vent when I encountered some issue, to watching that video over and over too, you are my rock in all things. I love you.

I guess that's about all for now. I'm heading to Dallas to take pix at a friend's wedding today and tomorrow. It's an OUTDOOR wedding, so y'all think about me tomorrow at 4, while you're lounging by the pool or in your nice air-conditioned houses, or on the nice cool lake. It's supposed to be 103 in Dallas!!

Thanks to all of you who took pix at the reunion. If you'll send me discs I can put them on tylerpaper.com and/or walmart.com and we can all share them. I will put mine on walmart.com next week for those of you who are having trouble downloading from the tylerpaper site.

Send me a date for a Tyler weekend at the Peppard's lakehouse and we'll plan it. Bob says I just have to get some folks there--they will do the rest, so I'm all about that!

If I've missed someone know that I love you all and can't wait to see you again soon.

Jan

JERRY JERRY SIMMONS!

Forgot to mention all your hard work, running around all over Nac for me.
And Steve Jurney, Garry M, Fernando, Joe W, Randy Rod, Gail's husband Gary, all you guys who helped out with muscle!

And Susan Brown--gosh thanks again and again for getting your dad and Coach J there. That was the icing on the cake too.

And guys, Cal didn't have time before the reunion to get your Clipboard Stories together for the coaches, so please write up something and send it to Cal or post it on your profile. We will put them all together and send them to the coaches once we have several more.

And Kevin White and Chris Henson were great hosts at Banita Creek Hall. I will post their email addresses so you can send them thank you's also.

Okay I'm off to Big D. They say it feels like 107 in the sun. Oh boy.

WOW, words just don't seem adequate enough to describe the amazing, fun, awesome and unbelievable time Glen and I had in Nacogdoches last weekend. Since we've been back in Indiana, I find myself getting on the classmate website quite often to see if there are any more pictures and/or stories posted. It was about 10 months ago that my brother Don came across Nacogdoches1974.com and called me to tell me about the reunion. I knew immediately I wouldn't miss coming back to Nacogdoches to attend my first high school reunion. It was even better than I ever imagined. I must say, I was a little nervous walking into Chili's Thursday night to meet Jan, Pam, Jimmy, Karen, Deborah, Nena, Steve, Jon, and Don for dinner. After 35+ years you aren't sure what to expect. All my worries were immediately put to rest as I opened the door to the restaurant and Jan gave me a big hug. As I greeted everyone, Jimmy said something about how I looked the same as I did in high school. That's all it took to know I was still among friends. I have so many "highlights" and great memories of the 3 days we were in town, it's hard to say any one moment was beter than the next.
Jan--I think I can speak on behalf of everyone who attended--we will always be in your debt for being the catalist behind the event. My hat goes off to all who worked so hard to make the reunion such a wonderful success.
To Odessa--Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! I told Don after your performance that we all may be getting a little older, but you guys still have it! Talk about a blast from the past...And Jimmy, I am going to hold you to your word. I hope to get that tour of the "behind the scenes" on one of my visit to Nashville.
I received an email from Theresa Luna McKewen today. She said Janie Evans Smith suggested we should have an old fashion slumber party. Oh my goodness, are we up for that...I say yes!
It was great to see each and everyone of you. I hope if you are ever in Indiana you will stop by to say "hi".
I look forward to #40!
I love you Class of 1974!

Thanks to Karen for getting me to come to my first reunion. At 4:30 p.m. on Friday, I was still on a job in Atlanta, Texas unsure if I would be able to make it to Shawn's...but I did! I got to see a lot of old friends and brought back a lot of old memories. Just imagine "it's only been 35 years, who would have thunk it, someone of us are still alive and kickin'" All in all it was great to see people that I had thought about and wondered about but didn't know where they were at.
What can I say about Saturday night? Jan and crew out did themselves...what a night! Who would have thought Odessa would ride again...a little older, a little plumper, a little grayer...but still got it...like 35 years ago. My wife, Rhonda and I throughly enjoyed ourselves...hope I'll be around for the next reunion! I really regret not making the past reunions. I'm proud of our class and everyone's personal accomplishments...go class of '74. Jan, just call me if you need any help with the 40th reunion.

Well, the wedding rehearsal and after party/dinner were fun tonight. The groom is a Dallas cop and he called the bride to be and pretended he had been stopped after leaving the party and being toasted and pretty toasty.

She left with some friends to go try and help him. We were all in a panic, thinking the wedding would be off while the groom languished in jail tomorrow.

He came back in and she was behind him chunking her shoes at him. All a big joke. Ha Ha.

So glad to hear from Cathy and Ed J today. Ed is one of my Nettie Marshall buddies.

And Cathy, yes, let's do a slumber party. Those were always such fun. Nobody gets any sleep during our reunion weekends anyway. Might as well just stay up all night.

I'm still laughing over all of Robin's stories. That girl is a hoot. I forgot to tell you, Robin, to be sure and notice in the slideshow the picture of you and Larry Austin in South Pacific. Liat was played by my brother's classmate Kay Labosky Grubb and she and I are Facebook buddies and she has a whole South Pacific scrapbook. My favorite part of that picture is the watch you had on. I'm sure it was vintage 1940's!

Love you guys. Signing off to get some sleep before the big wedding.

From Cindy Greene Hancock after speaking with Mandy the week before our reunion:

I spoke to Mandy last night. She is living in North Carolina for a few more weeks. Her husband works for Lockheed Martin and has been transferred to New Mexico. Mandy just returned from New Mexico on Saturday from a house hunting trip. I told her to go to the web site and read up on everything. We had the nicest conversation but Lester and the boys cut me to only a 30 minute visit. Mandy called as we were preparing to leave for Concert in the Garden. She sends her best to everyone.

I'd like to ask everyone to go out to the In Memory page and write memories, comments, etc about our deceased classmates.

Please let me know if you know of any I need to add.

Also, if you have copies of their obits, recent pictures, family info, etc I would love to have it to post to their pages.

Linda, I have the picture and obit you sent of Danny. I was hoping to see you at the reunion and return it then. I will mail it to you this week.

Thanks for helping to honor our deceased classmates.

Gosh, I didn't realize until I read his post that Ed Johnson had not been to a reunion.
We ran into him and Rhonda at Jitterbugs during homecoming 2001 and Rhonda did come to our last reunion and helped me out getting Duke the Dragon there.
So it seemed like he had been there!
Here are our first time reunion attendees--
Ed Johnson, Cathy Sanders Hoover, Terry German, John Folsom (Foxjohn), Gail Birmingham.
So glad y'all could make it and hope to see you at the next one.
And of course, Coach Brown and Coach Johnston--first time teachers to be there.

Friends - I have been on the road since the Sunday morning after the reunion. I have made people wonder what I had been up to given the constant large smile and the occasional gut laugh for no apparent reason. Thanks for letting me crash your reunion. It was so good to see each of you and I look forward to staying in touch! Formative friends are important.
To all the planners and volunteers thanks for a very memorable weekend.

To Kerry, Lisa, Susan, Sharon, Carol Ann, Maritza, all the 'crashers'-- you guys were all part of our high school experience and we welcome you as part of our group.
I'm still waiting for the big group picture from Kevin.
I'll post it as soon as it's sent to me.
You all helped make this a great reunion for all of us.
Can't wait to 'crash' yours.

Morning, Everyone!

I have been receiving reunion pix from several of you and I'm so excited to get them.

I posted some on your individual pages and some on the 35th Reunion 2009 page, so check both places!

Also, I found Cecilia Pearce! Thanks to Gae Meador Mitchell for showing me an article with the correct spelling of their last name I was able to search on ancestry.com and this time I found them.

Cecilia is now Cecilia Pearce Collins and still lives in Austin. I found a mailing address and phone number and will be contacting her.

Several of you have asked about Terry German. He hasn't set up a profile on our site, but he is on classmates.com. So, you can send him a message thru classmates.com.

Guess that's all for now. I have several things to mail out to several of you. Please be patient with me--I have quarter end at work and budgets due AND our audit kicking off soon, so it's crazy right now and hard for me to get down to our mailroom and send things out.

Do let me know if you didn't get your copy of the reunion dvd and would like one. I have a few extras and several to mail out for those of you who registered but did not make the reunion.

And let me know if you can make a lake get together in August or Sept at the Peppard's lakehouse in Tyler!

This is open to all our site members, classmates and guests all!

I've made a slideshow out of some of the pix I have and will add more!

Check it out on the Home Page.

I also posted a group picture with all the classmates and teachers added--Home Page also.
