Thanks and happy birthday to you!
Can't wait to get it all finished.

Calvin Pascal (Cal) Barton Jr.

Jan has become such a geek! Ten years ago she didn't even have a computer, now we've got them in almost every room; wireless networks, memory sticks, digital imaging, video editing, web design, etc. She even has a computer that she uses in bed most nights! Keeps me busy keeping it all updated and running.

Seriously, Jan works hard at keeping all this information together for us all. She is very excited about this new site and I think it has potential to be a very nice class website for us all. I know she will strive to make it so. I want to thank her as well for all her hard work and diligence. She really is a sweetheart!

Aw! Isn't it nice to hear from Cal? Told y'all he was still around!

On a sad note, I heard that Rodney Dean's mom passed away.

Here is an email that I received from Rodney last night--

Thank you all,

It is incredible how you try to plan for something like this but when it comes to fruition, it is still devastating. Thank you all for the kind thoughts. Steve Alexander drove up from near Houston and when I saw him I almost had a coronary! He was close to me and my parents many moons ago. It had been many years since I had seen him and he’s looking good.

Jerry, you have to glue your butt to that stand…that deer is beautiful!!! I know he’s probably nocturnal, as you feel he is, but he has to pee sometime! Let me know when you get him.

John, good luck with your season as well. I will continue to bow hunt for a while. I hope the best for you all.

Thanks again,

Rodney

John Folsom/Foxjohn

I haven’t taken the time to thank Jan Dobbs-Barton, John Stewart, Joe Hambrick, and Marilou Brown-Smith for attending my book signing for the launch of my last novel. I hope I didn’t miss anyone.

I can’t tell you all how much it meant to me for you to be there.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to go to the trip on November 1, but I enjoyed the last get-together.

Most of the people who attended the function I hadn’t seen since 1971. Needless to say, most didn’t have a clue who I was, and I didn’t know them. Some still didn’t know me even when I told them.

The truth is, I wouldn’t know many of you if I stood next to you and talked to you. I think Jan has done a wonderful job on the site. I have spent quite a bit of time going through the profiles and looking at the pictures. Most of the ones I went to Nettie Marshall and TJR I recognize immediately.

Since I spent so little time in high school even before I quit, the simple truth is, many people on the list I just don’t know.

It’s funny, but the only reference I have to tell people who I am so they might know me—I represented the army on stage at your career day before graduation.

Anyway, I have a busy summer coming schedule, but I have set time aside to be at the reunion this year. I have never been to one before, and most of that has to do with the fact that I didn’t think I belonged.

If I don’t see you before then, I am looking forward to it.

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

John,

I am so proud of all your success. Your books are awesome.

I am so glad you're planning on being at our reunion.

You definitely do belong and don't ever think otherwise!

10/31/08 04:55 PM #12

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

Y'all check out Ig's page and see her Halloween outfit.

She cracks me up. She made a great Jackie O!

I am off to take pix at the John Tyler - Robert E Lee big rivalry football game.

Go Lee!

10/31/08 05:24 PM #13

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

I responded to Brenda earlier, but I guess the email/Internet Nazi at work stopped it.

Anyway, y'all have a blast in Shreveport and somebody take a camera and get some good pix.

Make sure Nick is fully clothed. Nobody wants to see that, except maybe Cris!!!

Reluctantly I say good luck to all the hunters also.

Of course, in my heart of hearts, I'm thinking Run Bambi, Run!

Good luck to Nac in their football game tonight also. I think they're playing Whitehouse in Nac. Should be a good game.

Go Dragons.

11/01/08 08:38 AM #14

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

Congratulations to our mighty Dragons, who defeated Whitehouse last night.

As far as Lee-JT, the Red Raiders pulled it off and have made the playoffs once again.

From Shawn Laird Burns:

Hey everybody!

Well count down begins to Casino Night! Hope everyone got their rooms reserved okay. Cash in those pennies and get ready to pull those one armed bandits. Can't wait to see everyone. For those that can't make it this time, we will try to find a better date for next year. Any of you, please, if your plans change and you can make it or you bag a deer early, come on. Still planning to get together around 6:30 - 7:00. Let ya know something later this week.

Jan have fun at the awards, but if you can slip over to see us.

Well, see ya Saturday. What a great group of people to know, you all are the best!! I am just so proud of all of you.

Later,
Shawn

Susan Jean Brown (Douthit)

My dad came to Houston yesterday to watch our son play in a golf tourn...(Andrew impressed Grandad Brown with his 6 birdies on the last 9 holes ) and I asked him to put the reunion on his calendar..He had spent Saturday with Coach Mike Johnston as my dad had been honored at Katy High football game for winning the first state football championship there in 1959..Coach Johnston now coaches in Houston at a private school but he and my dad still run around together..They will try to attend..We could hardly keep quiet at the tournament for my dad asking me about some of his former players. He truly remembers vivid details about each of you classmates and former players and loves getting updates on where you all are and how you all are doing. He very much enjoyed Cal's football story..so..if all goes well in June with everyone's schedule..maybe he can come and shake hands with so many of you who worked so hard to make the Dragons so successful..Thanks for including him..Susan

11/04/08 10:14 AM #17

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

That is so awesome, Susan. It will really add to our reunion to have your dad there. Hope he can convince Coach J to come also. They both meant so much to our class.

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Turnham (Bell-Schexnaider)

Just noticed that there is only one male attending the reunion so far. He is in the band!
Girls just wanna have FUN!!
Seems we will get our wish.

11/05/08 10:26 PM #20

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

Well, Cal will be there too. I guess he didn't check that he will be attending!
At the John Tyler Class of 68 Reunion the dj played Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and their tough biker guy got out and danced with the girls. It was a hoot.

From Shawn Laird Burns
Hi Everybody!

Just wanted to check in to tell everyone what a great time we had at our Casino Night. Just wish everyone could have been there, maybe next time.

I just spoke to Wayne and thanked him big time for that suite. OMG! We had the Presidents Suite for our get together. This room! Like country gone to town we took our picture, all of us, in one of the showers. It was unbelievable.

I am not sure who won what but I think everyone had a great time. I think Dian and I were the last ones standing around 4:30.

You guys are just great to hang around and I can't wait till our next adventure.

Hope all of our hunters were safe and got the big one. Let me hear from you guys. Everyone watch for Jan on tv.

later,
shawn

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

Hey Y'all,

Sounds like you had a blast. Maybe we can get another trip up in Feb or March???

Okay, who was the photog and when are they sending me pix??

I can't wait to post them on the new site.

I am leaving for Nashville tomorrow. I talked to Jimmy today. He was writing with Jason Michael Carroll and he let me talk to Jason.

He is really a nice guy. Hope they wrote a big hit.

I have tix to the Opry Sat nite and Kevin Costner and his band will be playing. Isn't that something?

Sunday is a Music City Walk of Fame induction ceremony--they are inducting Elvis and Michael McDonald! Also Trace Adkins and Martina McBride. Should be interesting.

Monday we don't have anything planned yet, then Tuesday is the BMI Awards and we also have a private party to attend after that for a new up and comer named Derek Sholl. His manager and I are friends.

Then Wednesday is the CMA Show at 7. I'm all set to be a seatfiller once again. My dress is black on top with purple print on the bottom. Since I had a primo front row seat last year I'll probably be in the back the whole time this year, but that's okay anyway. Sounds like it's going to be cold and rainy in Nashville--yeuch!
Jimmy will be at BMI, but not the CMA's even though Kenny is singing the Heaven song.

Thursday my friends and I are heading to Pigeon Forge to attend a show there that my producer friend is putting on. We have a cabin in the Smokey Mtns--how cool is that?? It even has a hot tub.

We will head back Saturday if I can drag my friends home.
I'll have my computer and be posting pix on tylerpaper.com.

Y'all be good.

Jan

Jan

The site is great! I thought I had forgotten almost everyone but after looking through the pictures, it does start to come back.

Mike Adams parents still live in Nacog. You might try to reach him through them:

Bill and Freda Adams
3174 Shady Acres
Nacog, YX 75965
936-564-0311

That is the only lead I have on any one.

Maybe I will see you next summer. I am thinking about coming to the reunion.

11/18/08 10:21 AM #24

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

Hey Cynthia!

Thanks so much for the lead on Mike!

I do hope you come to the reunion.

We have a great time and the memories just come flooding back.
Conversations start up just like you never left off.

It will be great to get to see you again!

Hello All!

Here is an email I got from Nick yesterday.

I'm wondering who might be interested in making a 2009 spring fling at our place - probably around early April (1st or 2nd weekend - we'll be in France the latter part of April) or maybe May although I realize that May is pretty darn close to the reunion date in June. There are two people who might also be interested - Susan Douthit and Bruce Moore (both who live in the area), but I don't have their e-mail address. So, if anyone has it I'd appreciate this e-mail be forwarded on. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards

np

From Shawn Laird Burns:
Just got back from the Nac Lighting Ceremony. Saw Dan and Susie.
That Susie looks good ALL THE TIME. I am so not sure that she is really our age.

The really great thing was that I finally broke down and got some new glasses this week so I actually could recognize people from a distance. Really did it right and got glare and scratch resistance. Now theres something to brag about. So now I not only can see cars coming at night but they don't blind me down with the glare of on coming traffic.

I sent this email to Tereasa Luna Mc. and I was just thinking about typing class, which for me turned out to be one of the most important classes I took in High School as I was a school sec. for many years. (yeah it was before the computer craz..) What was that teachers name, Mr. something. Tereasa went on every errand this guy had for the whole year. I think every bulletin board required a trip and lunch.

Anyway, I just felt like telling all of you how thankful I am to count you all as friends and I wanted to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I always get sentimental during the holidays, could be the eggnog. Anyway, ya have the best Thanksgiving. Sometimes its these little things like these new glasses, that make you stop and say wow I have it pretty good even when things look dim. So Happy Turkey Day!!!!

Love ya!!!!

Shawn

From Suzie Gresham Peppard:
Shawn, look who's talking! You don't look any older than the day we graduated.
In fact, I was thinking last night when I saw you that you look younger than then!!!
(Do you think the dim lighting could have had something to do with how we were
seeing?)
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. It was good to see you again.

Suzie

Debra Jan Dobbs (Barton)

From Garry Moynihan:
Shawn,
Thanks for the wishes and sentiments. I know that each of us have many things to be thankful for, but the demonstrated loyalty and affection that has been conveyed over the years through "cyberspace", almost non-stop, is truly a blessing. Classmates like Jan and you, Nick, John, Fernando, Cindy, and yes you, Brenda, prove that time and distance mean nothing and can not stand up to determined and dedicated friendship.

To all of you, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Garry
