Nena Sue Smith

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Am thankful also for all of you and the opportunity we have to stay in touch. Thanks especially to Jan for our new website!

It was so great to see several of you at the NHS game where Jimmy was honored, and also at Casa Tomas. I saw Marilou and Jan Rhodes last week at Holiday in the Pines. This afternoon I saw Shawn at WalMart.

Hey Nena!
So glad you are checking the site.
I hear you and Debbie have been emailing. She is a dear, just like you.

Welcome to the site, Rodney!

Love you guys.

Sent this email this morning. This is for those of you registered here that I don't have email addresses for.

Good Morning All,
Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving and that you are enjoying this special holiday season. I am thankful for the friendship I share with all of you.
Thanks so much to those of you who have sent in your reunion registration!
I wanted to ask your help in naming our class mascot--a stuffed Dragon I purchased in Nac several years ago. I would like for him to have a special name and to ask those of you who are traveling to take him with you and take his picture in exotic places as well as around Nac or wherever you live.
I have been thinking about doing this for quite some time and then when I got Nick's email that they are going to Italy next spring, I thought that would be a perfect trip for our Dragon. Hopefully it will be okay with Nick and Cris.
So, please send me your suggestions and as soon as he is named, we will start a calendar for him and you can sign up to take him with you on your travels or just have him hang around the house with you.
This could be the most well-traveled Dragon ever!
I will post his picture on the new site soon.

BTW, the Dragons play REL in basketball tonight. My allegiance will be torn.

Oh and don't forget that Ron Raines from NHS68 will be performing with the Dallas Symphony Thurs, Fri, Sat THIS WEEK.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions for the Dragon!

I have also made a vow to get the obit info for all our deceased classmates and post it on our new site.
John Stewart has graciously agreed to search the fiche of old Sentinels, but it would help so much if any of you have the originals that you have saved.
I have Clara's, of course, and it is posted on the new site.
I have researched the birth and death dates, and have them posted for almost all of our classmates on the new site also.
Brenda, I have the funeral program you gave me for Spanky, and just haven't pulled that to copy to the site.
If you have any and wouldn't mind either scanning and emailing them to me, or just transcribe them into a Word Document, that would really help and save John some time.
I can't believe as close as I was to David McShan that I don't have his. I guess it was just so hard to believe as young as we were and as hard as he fought that we lost him. It was 35 years ago last week that he died. Forever young....

Just wanted you all to know that my cousin Mae Gresham passed away yesterday in Nac. Kidney failure, diabetes, heart trouble. At least she isn't suffering any more.
Also, heard that Angie Muckleroy and Kim Crisp's son Blake was killed in a car accident yesterday.
And finally Bill Duke, Ruby Duke's husband (she was our counselor at Nettie Marshall) also passed away yesterday.

I just wanted to post here about Duncan's wife. She passed away in Austin on Nov 18. The obit is posted on our In The News page. I am just heartbroken for Duncan.

Welcome Judy, Steve, Jimmy, and John Muckleroy!

I'm getting tired of talking to myself!

I'm just posting just to post.

12 Days of Christmas Memo

To: All Staff
Date: December 1
Subject: New "Twelve Days of Christmas" Policy

The recent announcement that Donner and Blitzen have elected to take the early reindeer retirement package has triggered a good deal of concern about whether they will be replaced, and about other restructuring decisions at the North Pole.

Streamlining is due to the North Pole's loss of dominance in the season's gift distribution business. Home Shopping TV channels and mail order catalogues have diminished Santa's market share. He and the Board could not sit idly by and permit further erosion of the profit picture.

The reindeer downsizing was made possible through purchase of a late model Japanese sled for the CEO's annual trip. Improved productivity from Dasher and Dancer, who summered at the Harvard Business School, is anticipated. Reduction in the reindeer will also lessen airborne environmental emissions for which the North Pole has received unfavorable press (gas and solid waste).

We're pleased to inform you that Rudolph's role will not be disturbed. Tradition still counts for something at the North Pole!

Management denies, in the strongest possible language, the earlier leak that Rudolph's nose get red, not from the cold, but from substance abuse. Calling Rudolph "a lush who was into the sauce and never did pull his share of the load" was an unfortunate comment, made by one of Santa's helpers and taken out of context at a time of the year when they are known to be under 'executive stress'.

As for further restructuring, today's global challenges require the North Pole to continue to look for better, more competitive steps. Effective immediately, the following economy measures are to take place in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" music subsidiary:

1) The partridge will be retained, but the pear tree, which never produced the cash crop forecasted, will be replaced by a plastic hanging plant, providing considerable savings in maintenance;

2) Two turtle doves represent a redundancy that is simply not cost effective. In addition, their romance during working hours could not be condoned. The positions are, therefore, eliminated;

3) The three French hens will remain intact. After all, everyone loves the French;

4) The four calling birds will be replaced by an automated voice mail system, with a call waiting option. An analysis is underway to determine who the birds have been calling, how often and how long they talked;

5) The five golden rings have been put on hold by the Board of Directors. Maintaining a portfolio based on one commodity could have negative implications for institutional investors. Diversification into other precious metals, as well as a mix of T-Bills and high technology stocks, appear to be in order;

6) The six geese-a-laying constitutes a luxury which can no longer be afforded. It has long been felt that the production rate of one egg per goose per day was an example of the general decline in productivity. Three geese will be let go, and an upgrading in the selection procedure by personnel will assure management that, from now on, every goose it gets will be a good one;

7) The seven swans-a-swimming is obviously a number chosen in better times. The function is primarily decorative. Mechanical swans are on order. The current swans will be retrained to learn some new strokes, thereby enhancing their outplacement;

8) As you know, the eight maids-a-milking concept has been under heavy scrutiny by the EEOC. A male/female balance in the workforce is being sought. The more militant maids consider this a dead-end job with no upward mobility. Automation of the process may permit the maids to try a-mending, a-mentoring or a-mulching;

9) Nine ladies dancing has always been an odd number. This function will be phased out as these individuals grow older and can no longer do the steps;

10) Ten Lords-a-leaping is overkill. The high cost of Lords, plus the expense of international air travel, prompted the Compensation Committee to suggest replacing this group with ten out-of-work congressmen. While leaping ability may be somewhat sacrificed, the savings are significant as we expect an oversupply of unemployed congressmen this year;

11) Eleven pipers piping and twelve drummers drumming is a simple case of the band getting too big. A substitution with a string quartet, a cutback on new music, and no uniforms, will produce savings which will drop right to the bottom line;

Overall we can expect a substantial reduction in assorted people, fowl, animals and related expenses. Though incomplete, studies indicate that stretching deliveries over twelve days is inefficient. If we can drop ship in one day, service levels will be improved.

Regarding the lawsuit filed by the attorney's association seeking expansion to include the legal profession ("thirteen lawyers-a-suing"), a decision is pending.

Deeper cuts may be necessary in the future to remain competitive. Should that happen, the Board will request management to scrutinize the Snow White Division to see if seven dwarfs is the right number.

Happy Holidays all!!

From Cindy Greene Hancock:

Happy New Year to all of you

I have been scrap booking up a storm! Santa gave me lots of goodies to work with and I completed the boys' scrapbooks. Five years worth of pictures and memories completed in one week. Now I have to work on the "family album". I am so exhausted. This summer might be a good time for that.

Who knows what will happen this new year! Hopefully great things for all of us.

Happy New Year!

I spent New Years Eve this year updating our site! I am truly a geek!

I added lots of pix and there are still lots more to add, plus I am waiting on you all to post some of your Christmas photos, old photos, wedding photos, etc!

Check out Doug Cottrell's page--he added a current picture of himself.

As the Columbia report was issued this week I am reminded again of that tragedy which occurred in our own backyard. And with Cindy's email about scrapbooking I am reminded that I left off a scrapbook I started in 2001 when 9-11 happened. At the time I just couldn't think of a way to properly 'scrapbook' that day and its events. I think that now I am going to just write up my memories of that day (which are vivid) and use that in the scrapbook. The same thing goes for the Columbia shuttle tragedy.

Why don't you all do the same? I'm sure your children and grandchildren will appreciate reading your accounts of American history that occurred in your lifetime.

Anyway, today is a good day to go down memory lane and then to plan for a new year ahead. I for one plan to use this new year to get better organized and to exercise and eat better. Those aren't resolutions--I never keep those. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.

See you all soon.

From Cathy Sanders Hoover:

Happy New Year.
I have been keeping up with all the classmate profiles, messages and pictures on the website and so enjoying them. I am really excited there are so many people signed up for the reunion. We will probably drive down from Indiana and may try to stay a little longer than the 2 days for the reunion.
Take care.
Love ya'
Cathy

A friend of mine from the John Tyler Class of 68 is like a second mom to Harper's mother Allyson.
She told me about the site and I have been watching and praying for her each day.
I thought it would be a good idea to share.

Hey All!

We had talked about a possible winter casino weekend and Nick and Cris have invited those in the Metroplex who might be interested to come to their lovely home in early April.
We need to get a list and plans together for both.
Please post here if you are interested and we'll start a list for each.

John Folsom/Foxjohn

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be in Keller, Texas—Dallas area on Feb. 22.

I am speaking and signing all my novels to a writers group at 2:30. The group meets at the Keller police department. If anyone wants to drop by, I’d love to see you.

As far as this one, I'll see what I can do.

01/06/09 06:05 PM #52

Fernando Noa III

I'm interested in both Jan. Whether I'll be able to make it is another question entirely.

I had an email from Peggy Galloway Harris yesterday. She and Carlos and Alfreddie had just been to The Boats for a weekend getaway, so we need to be sure and let them know when the next one is planned.

Welcome to our newest site members and to those who have updated their pix.

Cathy Sanders Hoover, Don Dietz, Jan Mooney Rhodes, Peggy, Cindy, Nick--y'all check out their pages and say hey.

Also Drake has his own page on the Classmates Profiles section. We will post his pictures there.

Y'all have a great day.
