What have I been up to? Among various things, I retired from education. Taught High School in Virginia City, Nevada a few years then finished out my career at Western Nevada College teaching in the computer area.

Pursued white water rafting as a private boater most of the past 14 years. Raised the kids with those experiences and have totally enjoyed experiencing a number of wild and scenic rivers.

After retiring I taught senior citizens as a part-timer for the college a couple years then ran away from home.

Turned the house over to the kids and came back up to the Sierras where I've been the year-round caretaker of Kit Carson Lodge on Silver Lake, Hwy 88 in Califrornia the last nine years.

Next? Come June I'm thinking I might go back home and ponder what "next" for the summer.

It's more fun growing old than being old. Subtle challenges of aging are adapting to growing physical limitations, letting go of some of the things you didn't get around to when they were attainable, and to accept your mortality through some form of faith, hope, or fantasy.

I've long been a fan of memories and adventures being one of the best ways to collect them. I decided a while back that getting old was more fun than being old. However, as I take stock of my 70 years and the treasures I've gathered, I firmly believe that at some point memories will surface as your greatest treasures. Collect all that you can.
