Max Steven Myers

Max Steven Myers, 62, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 after a prolonged illness. Born February 27, 1946 in Wilmington, N.C., Steven was the beloved youngest son of loving parents Annie Lee Potter Myers and James Dalton Myers. He graduated with honors from Hunter College of the City University of New York with a Master's degree in Art History, and later moved to Savannah, Ga. where he joined the faculty of the Savannah College of Art and Design SCAD shortly after its founding in 1978. A professor at SCAD for more than 25 years, Steven was highly regarded by colleagues and students alike. He had an insatiable love for art and history, and served as an inspiration to many SCAD students from around the world who now credit him with their professional success. For those who were fortunate enough to know Steven, whether professionally or personally, their lives are without doubt much richer for it. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends who loved him so dearly. Surviving are his sister, Betty Ann Myers Cook and her husband, Douglas, of Riegelwood, N.C. and brother, J.D. Myers, Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; nieces, Cynthia C. Frank, husband Jeff and their son, Zachary, of Harahan, La.; Sheryll M. Bryner, husband Tim and their children, Casey, Jared and Tamara of Seattle, Wash.; and Michelle C. Vaught and her husband Chuck of New Bern, N.C. He was predeceased by a nephew, Douglas M. Cook, Ill. Graveside services will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Larry Knowles officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove for their excellent and compassionate care over the last three years. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter for the exceptional way in which they ministered to Steven's most recent needs.
