Goerge and I joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1964 and we were in the same training platoon in San Diego. George always wanted to be a career Marine and felt the best way was to join the reserves and switch to active Marine upon arrival at MCRD. It was July 1964, while standing in formation, he was called out, put in a small detail of Marines, and marched off as I watched. That was to official beginning of his Marine Corps career.
It was only after his retirement did I see him again at our class reunion and caught up on some of the experiences he had.
