Sue and I became fast friends at Redwood. I had known her for some time before she confided that she was in foster care.  She shared that at a slumber party at Judy Brunt’s house, still remember that. Her foster mother, Mrs. “E” often hosted slumber parties for us… all the way up in Yountville. Seemed so far away then. They lived on the grounds of the Vet’s home since Mr. Entenman worked there.  Then at Napa High Sue and Jim and George and I double dated for the prom, graduation, all the milestones of the senior year.

The photo at the airport is when Claudia Reed and I saw Sue off for her next chapter in Southern California. After graduation, she went to live with her father. I remember on my honeymoon stopping by to see Sue and her first husband when he was going to Humboldt State and they lived there for a time. She had a great career in aerospace back in Southern California, met her second husband learning how to fly. He was killed in a plane crash. Sue died just months later. Claudia and I went to Big Bear for her memorial service and shared photos of her Napa years. Smart, loyal, caring, beautiful, fun and funny. She is missed.
