My preliminary research online indicates that Brent Gularte died while on duty with the US Army, training as a helicopter pilot at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Yes Brent died I believe in 1968 in a fiery helicopter crash along with his instructor, we were best friends in high school . Did alot of snow skiing together, his parents had a cabin in lake tahoe, where we had lots of parties and good times together.my parents thought of him as a son and he as a son to them.

During 67 and 68, Brent and I worked in the Napa Register circulation department together, until he left for the service. One day, Brent walked in to the department after a few months of absence. He had survived boot camp, and said he was in helicopter training in Georgia. I was the only one still at work in the press room, so we shot the breeze for about 15 minutes before he waved, and gave me that ear to ear Brent Gularte smile as he pealed off in his very familiar metallic Teal colored Plymouth. About a month later, the press was running, and I was scooping papers off the conveyor when one of my coworkers exclaimed that Brent had died in a helicopter accident during training. . . . it was in the paper. We were all saddened. I was shocked. Brent was one of those people who fill voids without trying. I feel honored that he and I got to enjoy each others company and reminisce for a few minutes before eternity snatched him up.
