After posting to Tyson's page. I scrolled down and noticed my falling sight had caused me to miss Jerry Ofsterdahl, service and early demise as well. I don't remember Jerry personally, but it appearred he served his country and died way before his time. Maybe someone who remembers Jerry could post something more personal than I can.
I met Jerry while playing football at redwood Jr. High. his very first play from scrimege touchdown, Jerry seemed to be a good guy and teammate. Years passed and I was planting a memorial tree for my son at skyline park and one of the volenteers was helping me pick a spot, and the man that was helping me turned out to be Jerrys dad. I told him how I knew Jerry and we soon had a lot to talk about . He told me that Jerry was becoming a good horseman and polo player for team at wildhorse valley ranch. His dad said Jerry was attending college and had some kind of mistake made on his grades or credits and uncle sam stepped in.I noticed the day of Jerrys passing and it was two days before I left Viet Nam.
