Joan attended our 50th Reunion. The notice of her death was in the Napa Valley Register Aug. 3 (in case the link does not work). She died July 21 in Santa Rosa. A celebration of her life will be Aug. 26, 2018 in Santa Rosa. (See the story for more details.) The family suggests donations to the Michael J. Joani was the first friend I had at Redwood Jr. High after 8 years in parochrial school. I instantly was drawn to her great sense of humor and unique style. We stayed friends throughout high school and continued to be friends for 54 years. We managed to keep in touch through geographic changes, marriages, careers and style changes, which Joani was always on top of, and me, not so much. She was smart, fun, kind and adventuous. At the 50th reunion, she was as brave and couragous as anyone I know, despite the obvious distress of her disease. My heart is broken and I will always miss and love her. Rest in peace Joani.
