Gary Johnston

Gary Kenneth Johnston, 51, passed away on Oct. 17, 2001, at UCSF Medical Center. He was born in Butte, Mont. on Oct. 22, 1949 to Gordon and Dorothy Johnston Gary was a devoted father to his two daughters always encouraging them to be successful in life. He was a caring, kind son, brother and uncle who had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and camping.

Gary was a graduate of Napa High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army First Air Calvary 7th Division from 1969-71. He served one year in Vietnam and was wounded in Cambodia. He received the Purple Heart as well as the National Defense Service and Vietnam Service medals, Combat Infantryman badge, Army Commendation Medal w/v Device and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/70 Device.

He worked at Mare Island and, until his illness, worked 20 years for the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet.

Gary is survived by his two daughters, Lissa and Raylynn Johnston of Suisun; Dorothy Johnston of Napa, mother; Linda and John Moyle of Vacaville, sister and brother-in-law; Susie and Bill Young of Napa, sister and brother-in-law; Lois (Tootsie) and Guy de Mauregne of Pope Valley, sister and brother-in-law; Robert Johnston of Napa, brother. He leaves eight nieces and nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Gordon Kenneth Johnston.

A celebration of his life was held at his mother’s home, 2 Justin Court, Napa. Internment was private. In remembrance, consider organ and tissue donations.
