Hyams - Cuyahoga, Niagara

Years ago I saw bucket list in a movie and decided right away to make this part of my own bucket list: To visit 50% of the national parks. At the time I had seen about 10. Since there were 58 national parks at the time, I calculated that if I saw 29 of them, then my list would have been satisfied. By the time I got to be 62 and could purchase a Senior Pass ($10) there had been several parks added which made me have to recalculate my per cent. Then they added more to make the total national parks at 63. That made me mad so I decided to get to 50 national parks so that the NPS would have to add up to 100 national parks to make my percentage fail!!

And the reason for the above explanation is that this spring my wife and I decided to go to some national park this fall to give me the 50th one! After a few checks we decided to go to Cuyahoga Valley NP south of Cleveland. In order to embellish the trip we decided to make a side trip to Niagara Falls to in a sense make the trip worthwhile. I have always wanted to go to Niagara Falls as has my wife. So we flew to Cleveland, drove to Niagara Falls then returned to Cleveland area to do Cuyahoga Valley. Both sites didn't disappoint.

Flew to Cleveland, drove to Niagara Falls-arrived in time to walk to Goat Island to see the Niagara River above the falls. This sunset walk through Niagara Falls State Park put us in the mood for the next day.

In the planning of the trip there were so many options that I got tired of trying to figure out the order to do events like having to decided which parking lots, the order of tours, etc. So I found a tour that would pick us up st the motel and do almost all of the places we had picked out.

The first stop was Maid of the Mist where we saw Horseshoe Falls and American Falls up close and wet!!
Maid of the Mist
Cave of the Winds
Crossed into Canada
Floral Clock
View of Moses Power Plant
Horseshoe Falls from Tabel Rock

In our rental car we crossed into Canada at Lewiston then drove to Niagara on the Lake which is supposed to be the most beautiful city in Canada. Lots of flowers!!! Visited museum and two forts ending with Ft. George. Then back to USA.

Niagara Falls as expected was great. Highly recommended.
Cuyahoga Valley NP was my 50th NP. Didn't realize how much history was there. We were pleasantly surprised at what we found in the Cleveland area.

Since I forgot one item that I thought was critical:

The region we were about to travel to has lots of toll roads.  I tried to figure out how to manage the ones in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.  This included trying to get a transponder for each state???  I gave up setting things up so that we would not have to exit to a toll booth as we traversed each state.  So when we were at the rental car booth I asked how to best solve the problem.  Her response was we should purchase their toll plan which would let us drive a car with a transponder and plan that would not require exiting the toll roads.  After it was all over, I was happy that we did not have to stop at any toll both in any state but could not figure out if we had the best deal --- just had a toll road bill of $100 plus which I guess was paid by the rental car company.  I'm OK with what we were charged.
