Natchitoches -- Graveside services for Monnie Cheves will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fern Park Cemetery with Dr. Luther Hall officiating.  Burial will be under direction of Blanchard-St. Denis.

Cheves of Birmingham, Ala., died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Vincent Hospital, Birminham, Ala.

He was a fomer member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.  He was a retired professor at Samford University, Birmingham, Ala.; a former professor at Northwestern State University, Natchitohes; a former basketball and football coach at Natchitoches High school; a former assistant to the president at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla.; and a former dean of education at Nocholla State College, Cocoa Bach, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryne Cheves of Birminham, Ala.; and one stepson, John Dozier Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
