Comments:

I spent most of my work life as an English teacher and school or public librarian. I have lived in Alabama, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

I have been happily retired for about 15 years.

On October 7 of 2018, my husband died of sudden cardiac arrest. It has taken me almost three years to feel that life is back to normal.

School Story:

For some reason, I remember that we students often sat on the school grounds at lunch and looked for four-leaf clovers. I remember my favorite teacher was Mr. Slater. I remember those little bales of cotton we got as favors at the prom. And of course I remember so many things about spending most of my childhood and youth in Natchitoches and the places along Cane River. I especially recall my grandmother’s little White House on Henry Avenue and walking across the bridge to Front Street to go to the Don or the Cane Theaters.

Tish, I am a bit late with this, but I hope your birthday was spectacular! They seem to come around quicker every year, don’t they?

I was so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. Please accept my sincerest condolences to you and all the family and friends of Louis. He certainly was a fine and accomplished southern gentleman of whom you all can be very proud. Believe me, I know the pain you are experiencing now for I lost my husband very suddenly a year and four months ago. Nothing I can say will help, but God bless you.

Sadly, my husband of 52 years, Jim Atkins, died on October 7 of 2018. He was reading in his favorite chair, just a few feet from me, when he died of a sudden heart attack. He had had some health problems for the past year, but we did not expect to lose him so soon. It has been devastating for my family and for me, but we are very grateful for the years that we had with him. If anyone would like to read his obituary and view the video, they can be found at this URL. https://www.floralhaven.com/obits/james-stewart-atkins/

I am on the right. Edsel McKee, I think, is next to me. Sarah Jo Adams is the other gypsy. If anyone can identify the headless man, let me know. We all won silver dollars for our costumes.
