When I saw Jim's name in the "In Memory" listing I was completely taken a back. I immediately sent a note to Roger Bond. Asking for details...before Roger got back to me I read the new account of his tragic death... It seems he was doing what he loved so much... Finding the best ways to spend time... Doing things he liked!!
The article/tribute to him in the Mcleans article tells a lot about this man not many of us got to really know.
When my mom was living at Granite Manor I used to walk along in front of Jim's house and more often then not he would be sitting on the front steps and invite me up to sit and smoke a big "J" and talk about old times..that last visit was the Spring of 2010(I think?)
Yup, my little sister called me from Nelson to tell me the sad news and I then read the details in the Star. My wife was very ill and bedridden,so, I could not do anything, but, I sure felt crappy about Jim for weeks afterward.
Too many of the best of our generation gone too soon..................
Jim was a great friend & wingman that i travelled with in our youth, numerous roadtrips down south to the spokane hockey games, San Francisco, San Diego and around B.C.After I moved away we lost touch ,only until the next visit to Nelson, and then we sought each other out, to reminience the good old days! I was really saddened to hear that Jim had passed away and would no longer see him riding his bike or telling me of his golf escapades to Balfour. RIP Jimmy
Thanks for your comments about my brother Jim. Joanne and Bob Phillips allowed me to read them as I am not registered on this site. There are so many stories about Jim's life in Nelson that are connected through his many friends.
It may be of interest to some of you that we have kept the house on Douglas Rd in the family, and are busy renovating it for my daughter Heather who is currently living there. I don't think Jim would like the changes but they are necessary to keep the integrity of our childhood home. We are excavating to accommodate a new sewer, driveway, and parking area, and to deal with the water in the basement.
For any of you who knew Jim, it would be my pleasure if you were to drop by the house for a visit and some storytelling. I will be in Nelson until July 14th at which time I will have to return to Ontario where I am currently living.
Thanks again for your kind words. Lorraine Kienholz Leschied
