I miss my old friend Mike. We worked together at Highways at the bridge when we got out of school. We kept in touch for many years while we both moved around to different places until he became ill and all of a sudden he was gone. So sad, he had just started to really enjoy his well earned retirement and owned a Bed and Breakfast in Victoria .
Mike was a very likeable guy. A very positive, caring and willing person. A real asset to society. I was shocked to hear of his death, for sure. And, even more saddened by his departure. Rest in Peace.
A quote from the 1964 LVR Yearbook, The Mountaineer, Page 58, the Graduates section. Above Mike's photo, a write-up about Mike:
"Mike Maglio-"Life is not life at all without delight." Mike is another of the Safeway crew. Next year he plans on taking a business course at the Vocational School."
I am so saddened at reading about Mikes passing. We were friends since elementary school. My fondest memories of him is the fun time we had dancing . We would go to so many teen dances together. He was like the brother I never had and a terrific dancer.
Nice to see some more positive comments/experiences about Mike (or as his family called him, "Mokey").
Mike was indeed a good friend, wasn't he? I didn't know him well in school but got to know and love him when I worked with him after Grad and we kept in touch for over 30 years no matter where we moved to .
Going out for lunch in those days was a "big deal" and he and I and our friend Patricia (she came from Creston) who worked at the District Highways office at the entrance to BOB (the big orange bridge) had a little box on Mike's desk that we used to drop our spare change into. When we got enough coins together, mostly through Mike's generosity, he would phone his Auntie who cooked at the Shamrock Grill to tell her we were coming for lunch and she would make us breaded veal cutlets with black current sauce. Simple pleasure for a simpler time.
I still keep in touch with his brother Mel who is nice too.
Mike was a long time Victoriaite like Sandy and I...Sandy would see him more often than me in her fast food bakery... he also stopped to say hello and asked how we were doing.
He was a gracious, beautiful man who loved life...RIP Mokey

Shocked to hear Mike was no longer with us, we were real good chums during high school, a great individual.
