I attended Selkirk College after graduating, working towards a history degree, but realized I really wanted to become a pilot, so after taking a year out to work, I went back to Selkirk, did the aviation program, and graduated in 1974, and was fortunate to be hired by CP AIR right after grad. I married my college sweetheart Margaret, who graduated from Nursing at the same time, and moved to the coast to start our careers. With a few interruptions, due to layoffs, one of which I spent in the Air Force, I flew with CP, Canadian Airlines, and finally Air Canada, before retiring as a Captain on the Boeing 767. Over my career, I also flew the DC8, DC10 and Boeing 747
Throughout my life I have been fortunate to be able to play music, working part time and sometimes full time playing rock n roll in a variety of bands with some remarkable musicians. Starting in high school, with fellow LVR students and still playing now in Nelson, it has sustained me and helped keep me feeling young.
In 1990, a fellow pilot and his family joined us in buying a cabin on Kootenay Lake at half mile next to my parents home, which we shared as vacation property for years, until he bought me out, and I purchased my parents home when they moved to assisted living. I did a major reno and addition, upon retirement and now live happily in my childhood home. We have been season ticket holders at Whitewater for many year, and delight in running a "friends and family" B&B summer and winter. (If you build it, they will come) as the movie says.
We stay active, travelling, walking, biking, skiing, and boating, trying to keep up with the kids and grandkids, and enjoying everything life in the Koots has to offer.
