Gary Herron

Entered US Army right after high school, attained degree in Physicians' Assistant Medicine from Baylor University in 1973. Retired from Army, 1982, began career as Safety Representative with Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc immediately, retired from Diamond Offshore in May, 2009. Currently enjoying retirement, attempting to write - have one children's book being edited as I type this. Working on manuscript of fictional story of growing up in the Appalachian Mountains and leaving there for the World. During military career, served in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, Panama. While working with Diamond Offshore, have had assignments in Indonesia, India, Bangledesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Brazil, Peru, North Sea, Tunisia, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Ghana, South Africa, Namibia, retired from assignment in Libya. That's why I stated my book will be about leaving the Appalachian Mountains for the World. Sister, Betty Collins still resides in McRoberts, Kentucky.

Was an underachieving student, not relealizing the need and value of an education until getting into the world outside of Appalachia. Funny story: Wasn't funny to me at the time but Principal Roy Reasor caught me playing hooky in the Neon pool hall. He was also gracious enough to give me his recommendation for my college admission. I have always been grateful.
