After graduating from Fleming-Neon I attended Hazard Community College, receiving an Associate Degree in Business. I then began my working career. I started with Beth-Elkhorn Corporation in Jenkins working there until they shut down. Then it was on to Enterprise Coal Company, Teco Coal Company, Jarisa Coal Company and then to Lexington to work for my nephew, (also a graduate of F-N, Steve Reach) with WhiteReach Development as an Accountant. In between these years I was married to Fred Spears (who passed away in 1999) and we had a beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Paige, who lives in St. Petersburg, Florida. I now live in Lexington, Kentucky and I love it!
To sum it up......My four years at Fleming-Neon High School were the GREATEST!!!!! I don't understand how teenagers these days can say they hate high school.....maybe because they didn't attend the best one.....My high school years were so memorable.....being cheerleader for the Fleming-Neon Pirates was one of the greatest honors in high school. Ballgames were always so much fun....of course, Coach Kincer would never let us sit with the boys on the bus on away games, but......what Coach Kincer didn't know....Then the year we were at the Regional Tournament in Hazard and the cheerlearder had their butts photographed (only because we had our names on our tights) and it ended up in the Hazard newspaper. We thought our sponsor, SUE KINCER, would stroke out. Of course, on Monday we got called to the office and Mr. Reasor almost suspeneded us. It was fun and I still have the picture. Another memory was standing at the radiators at the end of the hall before school and at lunch. I still haven't forgotten Otis Randall Craft telling me that I had something every guy wanted (a mustache!!!!!) Then there was the time Debbie Hogg broke her arm at the Whitesburg Gym when we were practicing in the hallway before a ballgame. It was when were were seniors that the Fleming-Neon Pirate Cheerleaders won the District Championship. Boy were we proud of our PIRATES! There are so many memories it's really hard to put them all in words. Then the sleepovers were always lots of fun, especially the time that Ernestine Hill, Jerri Lynn Little, Kathy Huff and myself decided to go into the old Fleming Hospital......that's just one of the fun sleepovers we all had. But the 70's at Fleming-Neon High School were the best....just ask anyone!!!!!!!
