My goodness! It would be nearly impossible to pick just one story from my time at Fleming-Neon High School. I have so many great memories from that time. I think the entire 4 years (which went by so fast) was one big great memory in and of itself. Each person there, be it the students or the teachers or whoever, had such interesting personalities. We sure had some characters that always kept me entertained and anxious to get to school the next day to see what they were going to say or do next. They still provide me with a lot of laughs when I think back to those days. I think that we done things differently at Neon than other schools, we had a lot of fun and spent our time in a very unique atmosphere that other high school students across the country are cheated out of. I enjoyed being in high school so much that it influenced me to be a high school teacher. Other people who are Neon outsiders listen to me talk about my high school, or they view my web page about the history of FNHS athletics, and I watch as their eyebrows will rise in confusion, unable to understand how anyone could have fun, much less enjoy high school as most people at other schools are just going through the motions and can't wait to get out and get their diploma. It is hard to convince them that Neon was different. So, I feel privileged to have spent 4 very short years at Fleming-Neon High School.
I can think of so many funny memories from high school. Just a typical day was above and beyond anything you could ever imagine. I remember David Robinson our principle for the last couple of years, who would come down the hallways singing in a very exaggerated opera style usually "Happy Birthday." You really never knew when it would be safe to go in P.D's room he might have something ready to blow up in there. And I will never forget hiding behind the counter in the office when my friend Tanner smarted off to Mrs. Taylor. I was scared! You just didn't mess with Mrs. Taylor. As was the case with Paula Moberly. Rest assured she was always ready to chew somebody in the band building. I'll never forget when Chris Hipps suggested that we sale cigarettes for fund raising efforts for our senior trip. And the funny thing was; it would have been a big money maker. Don't ever make the mistake of thinking we didn't have brilliant minds @ FNHS. I could make quiet the disturbance myself. One day me and James were upstairs at our lockers and the bell rings signaling we are late for homeroom. We were the only people in either hallway, everyone else was in a room. We started down the stairs, as both of our homerooms were downstairs, trying to be quick but silent as to not draw attention to ourselves. It was working well until nearly halfway down the stairs I missed a step and my feet went out from under me, my hind end smacked down on the step where my foot had intended to. And I bumped down every single step all the way down to the bottom, yelling and screaming with every bump, completely destroying our efforts to stay silent in a very quiet hallway. It was certainly a spectacle!
