Comments:
I left Neosho the summer of 1979, my 1969 Sunbeam Alpine loaded with Russell, my Welsh Corgi, and everything I owned. I moved to Absecon, New Jersey, where I lived with my mother for a year.
In 1980, I graduated from Absegami High School and went to Marlboro College in Vermont. There I studied philosophy, religion and history and graduated with my B.A. in 1984.
After leaving Marlboro, I moved to Philadelphia and eventually landed a job at The Philadelphia Inquirer, the major daily paper.
In 1986, I moved to Manhattan and began graduate work at the New School University (then called the New School for Social Research). I continued to work for the Inquirer, taking the train from New York to Philadelphia each Friday and returning each Monday morning.
In 1988, I finished my work for an M.Phil. and began to teach philosophy at the New York Institute of Technology.
After a year of teaching, I moved to Pittsburgh in 1989, where I entered the philosophy Ph.D. program at Duquesne University. On my first day in Pittsburgh, I met my future wife, Eva Rigling, who, like myself, was born in Switzerland. Eva bicycled with me to Missouri in 1990 for the 10th reunion of the NHS class of 1980. In 1990, I began to teach at Carlow University in Pittsburgh. My first two children, Sarah Rose (Rosie) and John Calvin (Calvin) were born in Pittsburgh.
I taught my final class at Carlow in December 1997, having already moved back to the Philadelphia area (Doylestown, to be exact) where I took a job at an advertising and public relations agency, working as a writer and editor.
In 2002, I quit my job and went to Princeton Theological Seminary, emerging three years later with a Master of Divinity degree, and was ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and installed as the pastor of Huntingdon Valley Presbyterian Church. In 2023, I received my Doctor of Divinity degree from Reformed Theological Seminary.
My third child, Amelia (Mia) Grace, was born on November 4, 2009.
My wife runs the Martin Luther School in Blue Bell, Penna. Rosie has degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania and works as a high school history teacher. She is married and has one son. Calvin lives with his wife and son in Bethlehem, Pa. He does some fancy computer work that I don't understand. And Mia is a student at Upper Moreland High School.
