Ok, no more politics on this board. I'm all for rousing political discussions but in the appropriate place and time. So let's rock! Today's song of the day is Ratt's "Round and Round" from their 1984 album Out of the Cellar.

And look I finally figured out how to post videos on this board! :)

Jeffrey Murphy

i was wondering if you were just making us work hard to veiw your videos... but you really didnt know how? you probably said "if murphy can figure it out, so can i" hahahaha...

Jennifer Schwab

lol... murph - that's exactly it.

Jeffrey Murphy

jen... i thought you might like this. this video was taken by my copilot on a deadhead leg. unfortunately, you can not hear the music, which was? yup, you guessed it.... kajagoogoo...

11/06/08 01:58 PM #698

Jennifer Schwab

Um... two things:

1.) If you're dancing to Kajagoogoo and your co-pilot is filming you dancing... who's flying the plane?

2.) It sounds like someone refers to your dancing as "so gay". I'd say definitely not gay, but a classic straight white guy dance. All that was missing was the white guy lip bite.

11/06/08 02:16 PM #699

Jeffrey Murphy

hey, i do the lip bite... its a staple.

copilots get to fly deadhead legs... its how we get them some experience. this guy was pretty experienced so i went and cleaned up the cabin, turned on some jams, and let loose. such a bad dancer!

11/06/08 02:16 PM #700

Jeffrey Murphy

oh... the autopilot

11/06/08 02:30 PM #701

Jennifer Schwab

yeah... remind me not to fly MurphAir. I prefer my pilots to be um... piloting. :)

11/06/08 03:37 PM #702

Michael Thompson

I'll take a dancing pilot every time.

that's hot Murph! look at his baby face!

11/06/08 04:03 PM #704

Jennifer Schwab

Well, the dimples always did make everybody swoon, but the dancing not so much! ;)

I must say...in all these years, I have never met someone who looks so consistently mischievous as Jeff Murphy. You must have a lot of fun! If not, don't tell me, I want to enjoy the illusion...

11/06/08 05:12 PM #706

Jeffrey Murphy

ummm.... yes, i have fun. too much fun, thats the problem... always getting myself in trouble.

Mary I like your drink of hot cider and captain morgan spiced rum. Funny I was thinking of that when i was sipping hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps at a high school playoff game last weekend. Hey murph I will take that dirty martini as the drink of the week. with some blue cheese stuffed olives

11/06/08 11:30 PM #708

Mary Franks

Drink of the week! I love it! Ha! Yeah, the cider drink is awesome. But bleu cheese stuffed olives are my favorite!! Even without the dirty martini.
Sorry kids I've been kinda lurking, checking in now and then, but I don't get much pc time. I can't believe it's getting so close to the reunion!!
Mike T, I love what you said to your 6 year old. Must have been a great moment for you..and him!
Have a great day everyone and see ya'll soon!!!

Good morning Tars... Ok, funny story - Soundscan announced yesterday that the first song in history to achieve online digital sales of more than 2 million units is....(drumroll please)... Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"

11/07/08 01:21 PM #712

Mary Franks

hi jenn, wow that kinda surprises me. would have thought it would have been a newer song.

Jennifer Schwab

Yeah, seems odd, eh? But from the story I read, this is (partly) the reason - though I'm sure that it's sheer awesomeness is the real reason:

First made available through the iTunes on April 28, 2003, "Don't Stop Believin'" has become the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history and the sole catalog track to go double platinum. The song is perennial favorite with producers and directors of both movies and television. 2005 was a good year for Don't Stop Believin' when it was featured in "Monster," starring Charlize Theron, made its way onto iTunes' Top 10 Singles in 2005 following same-week appearances on Fox's "Family Guy" and MTV's "Laguna Beach." and became the unofficial theme song for the 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox. It also enjoyed a huge resurgence in June of 2007 as the music for the climactic finale of "The Sopranos."

Technically, wouldn't South Detroit be in the Detroit River? or possibly Ontario?

View Larger Map Just Wondering. Love that song.

Heidi Gipprich (Baldwin!)

Wikipedia:

Possibly due to the Detroit mention in the song, all professional teams in the Detroit area play it extensively at their stadiums since the first release in 1981. Similar to the White Sox mention above, it was played during every game of the 2006 World Series at Comerica Park, and is also heard during Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Pistons games. The opening stanza refers to "Just a city boy/Born and raised in South Detroit". As Detroiters know, there really is no such place; Detroit has an East Side and a West Side, but north and south are not usually referred to. "South Detroit" is more commonly known to locals as "Downriver".

For all you Bulldogs out there... the Ferris State hockey team is playing Miami tonight. The game is being broadcast on the NHL Network.

Heidi - "South Detroit" is more commonly known to locals as "Downriver" and to non-locals as "what's that smell?".

Michael Theut

Ohhh..Harsh. As a transplant to the "downriver" area. Let me clarify something.

Downriver derives it's name from the fact that the Detroit River, after running nearly east-west along the banks of Detroit and Windsor, then bends to flow largely north-south before emptying into Lake Erie. This bend occurs at the point where River Rouge intersects with the Detroit River. Communities to the south of the Rough can thus be accessed by traveling downriver (as opposed to upriver) along the waterway.
The River Rouge flows into the Detroit River at Zug Island, which is the boundary between the cities of River Rouge and Detroit. Thus, no part of Detroit could be referred to as downriver.

I would consider South Detroit to be areas such as Mexican Town that are south of the axis of the wagon wheel roads (Woodward, Gratiot and Jefferson)

WHEW....I think I just had a brain burst like "Hank the Tank" in the debate. I stole some of that from Wiki. The rest was my endless pursuit to prove that Flat Rock is not downriver. No luck so far.
